I found this article, not often a conclusion is made public like this!

Read and learn:

Re: Rare stuff! Conclusion on accident...

"South Canterbury pathologist Murray Barclay said an autopsy led him to believe Mr Bailey had died of acute heart failure, possibly brought on by irregularities with the gas mix."

I'm confused. Does this mean he had a heart attack? In what possible way would a hypoxic diluent contribute to that?

Except maybe the point about not aborting the dive when his computer failed... but even then the article does not say if he did or did not have back up PO2 monitors... hmmmm...

Re: Rare stuff! Conclusion on accident...

Hello,

Quite a lot is known about this accident and many of your questions are likely to be answered in the proper coroners report. What you have in that article are just a reporters interpretations of bits and pieces heard in a court room and I think you will give yourselves a headache trying to make sense of it. I will try to make sure that when the report is issued (probably a couple of months) that I link you to it. I hope that several very useful learning points will be brought out.

Re: Rare stuff! Conclusion on accident...

Simon is correct in some points about the reporter and what he has choosen to write from yesterdays hearing.Alot of points raised by nz dive squad need correction and will be dealt with in a months time. The case still has a non disclosure on what can be talked about so if we can leave it for now.
Thanks
Mark
