Cave Depth record achieved using KISS rebreather

Interesting story from Jason Mallinsons point of view as he was diving the Classic KISS but its worth saying that all the rebreather divers were using KISS part on their modified or home made rebreathers and we generally believe that mCCR is the way to go on trips like this.

if I read it correctly its not a depth record for water but how deep underground.. Its confusing the way it is written up... how deep underground is not necessarily how much water pressure they experienced..

Agreed. I read it as linear penetration length..... and it was actually a multi sump/mixed with dry cave dive.

An achievement for sure, but not quite what the tag line claims :)

Wow, the logistics involved in sump diving has always amazed me. Congrats!

In caving, (dry and wet) the vertical measurement is taken from the highest elevation to the lowest elevation within the system.

As in Phantom cave we pushed in January. Brett Hemphill (using a modified KISS Classic), and Andy Pitkin (using a prism) reached a depth of 462 feet (under water). But this cave also has 32 feet of dry passage above the water line, thus in true caving a vertical distance would read 494 feet.

    Congratulations!

A great dive. Great description of th endevour as such..
Certaintly quite some people will be exited to have learned you can continue to push there at significant water depth

As far as the record goes.. Even aftzer reading the articel I do not quite understand what sort of record is claimed.. vertical overall depth? penetration linear penetration length?
If the latter I'd be quite surprised that 1,5 K's could be a record setting penetration length in the western hemisphere..
