    Equipment Requirements TDI Mixed Gas

Reading through the equipment requirements of the Mixed gas manual and it notes the following:
    1. A closed circuit rebreather; this should be the student’s personal unit
    2. Minimum of 2 bottom timers and depth gauges or;
1 CCR mixed gas computer and 1 bottom timer and depth gauge
    3. Bailout gas supply in a minimum of 2 separate off-board oxygen clean cylinders; calculated at 45.30 litres /1.06 cubic feet per minute usage to cover stress situations
    4. Two open circuit regulators and gauges fitted to the configuration
    5. Mask, fins and a suitable line-cutting device
    6. Slate and pencil
    7. Reel with a minimum of 60 metres / 200 feet of line
    8. Reel with a minimum of 30 metres / 100 feet of line
    9. Two lift bags / delayed surface marker buoys (DSMB’s) with a minimum of 12 kg / 25 lbs lift
    10. Exposure suit adequate for the open water environment where training will be conducted
    11. Access to an oxygen analyzer
    12. Access to a helium analyzer
    13. Adequate weight

Its suggesting that two OC Regs are required, but I'm wondering if my current bailout sets with APD GCS would suffice (ie I have no 'regs' - just QDs) ?

And do they / does one set have to be ready for 100% ? (as I have Hollis DC1's)

Each of your bailout tanks will need to have its own reg appropriately cleaned for the type of gas mixture. In other words, if you are carrying a bailout with EAN50, it's reg will need to be O2 cleaned.

    Thanks for the reply.

Any thoughts on if I need OC mouthpieces for the regs?

How will your buddy think about it whdn at 80 meters he has run out of gas because he used 80 liters per minute and yiu have 2300 liters of gas that could save his live? Unfortunately he doesn't have an apd!

Get a reg on your bailouts. If the accidental loss of gas worries you then use a flow stop and overoressure as well.
And get a long hose. Never ever give off your gas cylinder. If you need it then you still have some options.

Make a list off everything that can happen and what you can do in multiple scenarios so that you survive.

Yes, you will absolutely need 2nd stages with mouthpieces on your regs.

respectfully, you might reconsider taking a mixed-gas course. Carrying sufficient open-circuit bailout is something to be learned from day 1.

Heres the deal. Everyone i dive with also has Evo's or Inspo's. Everyone is using the APD GCS connectors. So from my point of view I have no problem with 'just' having QDs on the bailout - if someone in our team needs bailout - here have it, connect it and use it.

My question is NOT about sufficient OC bailout - which I fully understand, but the configurations wanted on the course.

Mixaddict has answered my question in terms of course requirements.

Re: Equipment Requirements TDI Mixed Gas

Hi perhaps you might want to look at the specs for APD GCS as issued by the manfacturers

IMPORTANT NOTE: The APD Gas Connector System (GCS) conforms to the
EN250 regulator breathing standard down to 40m. Below this depth the breathing
performance falls below this standard. If the GC3 FLOWSTOP is used in-line with
the GCS the system conforms to EN250 down to 30m

This might have some bearing on whether it is feasible on a training course

Re: Equipment Requirements TDI Mixed Gas

QCs of insufficient size can make breathing OC a very bad experience.
Have you actually tried a full bailout form depth with the QCs? It may sound good in theory but not so in practice.
