    SF2 - Rebreather

A new rebreather on the market?

    http://www.tdisdi.de/wetnotes-sf2.pdf

The market for recycling equipment is currently
    clearly in motion. Various
    Manufacturers with new and promising
    Devices from different
Type on the market. In this category
    includes the SF2, a new
    electronic rebreather from Germany.
    Wetnotes, the device under the
Closer look, and with the people
    spoken behind the project.
"Keep it simple!", That was the motto
    in the development of SF2.
Even at first glance, it is
    that this claim into reality
    was implemented. The device acts
of a piece and has a
    convincingly simple form. Compared
    works with other devices
SF2 very compact. The reason for this
    reveals itself on closer
very quickly. The counter lung is
is lower in the tube. The
SF2 can this respect, its origin
    not be denied: his predecessor,
the (how surprising) SF1 was a
PSCR. "For several years, were PSCRKreislaufgeräte
    the Non Plus Ultra
in the technical diving community, "says
    Thomas Friese, the developer
of SF2, the situation in recent years.
It has long dealt with Friese
    the development of cardiovascular devices
and accessories. He was instrumental in the
Development of some diving equipment involved
    and later produced his own
    Device, the aforementioned SF1.
"We were very happy with the performance
of SF1, and in terms of
    breathing comfort, but now am
I come to the conclusion that
    ECCR device more comfortable and
safer than passive systems working. "
    The Tek-scene seems this opinion
to share now, in any case be
    electronic controls would
    condemned land. The to-

    Kreislaufge devices
    participating popularity of devices like
    the inspiration, megalodon, the REVO
JJ-CCR or the talk in this regard
    for themselves. "We have
    various devices tested, but
100% of us could not ECCR device
    "Convince Friese describes the development,
    which led to SF2. "Most
it was the position of the counter lungs,
    within our test group
    Met with criticism. Lungs,
    in the
    Brus tbe -
    rich
    are certainly provide an excellent
    Breathing comfort, but this is
not necessarily to diving comfort. "
    Almost all currently available devices
position the counter on the lungs
    Chest, which in technical diving
    actually not without its problems.
The change from OC to CC designed
    is difficult. Stages have different
    be positioned and seated
    often too low,
    so trim and water resistance
    be adversely affected. The positioning
    of different accessories,
    such as the backup
    Lamp (s) must be reconsidered
be, as the lungs, a fastening
    at the usual place
not allow it. "At some point
It was clear that the combination
    from the general technical
    Structure of SF1 with
    an electronic monitoring
    and control for us
the very best solution was. "
The SF2 was not at the beginning
    planned as a commercial project.
    "Initially we wanted to
    actually within our
    Group is technically possible
    and explore to see if
    are our thinking actually
    into reality
left. That there is such a dynamic
would assume, I did not even
    expected. "
The bottom of the SF2 comes divers
    then PSCR-experience and
    very familiar, although the carbon
Pipe from the outside a new and
    offers high-quality appearance.
    Among them are then
    But the known Atembälge
    (Amazingly, still
two - one large and one
    smaller). The closing membrane
of the small bellows, which when
PSCR parts of the respiratory gas
encapsulates, but you are looking for
    vain. "Technically
    could be on the inner
    Without bellows, "said
    Friese, the design concept,
"But he is an ideal water trap
    so I have
    leave it in place. "
The centerpiece of the SF2 is
    actually a nearly complete
    New development.
    This had two different
    Requirements
    on modern rebreathers
    be implemented. On the one
    sitting here, the bypass,
contribute to the low volume in the system
    automatic gas feeds
    which are here the connections
the "Manuals Ads" which allows the diver
    That allow oxygen or manually
    Diluent to feed.
About the middle piece, sits again
wrapped in a carbon tube, one to
to 2.2 kg synthesis scrubber tank. Stores
    need for assembly or disassembly
of the way, not SF2. All
    Glands of the device may
easily opened by hand or closed
be. This also applies to the
Electronic Chamber of SF2, which underneath
    the head is. Sit here
three oxygen cells and the solenoid valve.
    All the electronics are well
    protected. Small amounts of moisture,
    for example, by condensation,
    can harm it.
The connecting pieces of the set breath
slightly bent at the head mounted.
This leads to an optimal positioning
    the clothing and a
    ultimate comfort for the diver.
When the external structure is the clear
    Lines thanks. The SF2 is
    with different bottle sizes
be operated. 3-liter bottles in harmony
But size is technically the best
    with the device. The rebreather
    is lightweight, but for a
    better fitness and a reduction
the additional required amount of lead
are 300 bar cylinder certainly the
better choice. Attached to the bottles
    with Quick Snap systems. This
    provide an unusually easy
    Handling during assembly and disassembly.
But not only the ease of handling,
    but also access to bottles
with larger volumes shows the advantage
    the tube-building towards rebreathers,
    in completely in a box
be packed. "The SF2 is directed
    for advanced or technical
    Divers! "Describes the Friese
Reasons for the development. "This group
    has certain needs and expectations
    with respect to structure undAusstattung
a circulation device. This we have
    considered and implemented. "What
The designer says it is very
    quickly evident when the front
considered the SF2. Had there not
the breathing serpent, one could SF2
also consider an OC device, so clear
and tidy is the front end
    therefore. From Rebreather interesting perspective
is the right side of the diver. Here
    sit the aforementioned "Manual
Ad "and" Off Board Gas Connector. "
    The latter, a female coupling
    Swage Lock Company is again
    a reminiscence of the technical
Taucher. With the Off Board Connector
    is possible, the rebreather
to operate with stage bottles. The
    technical diving is so important
The basic idea of redundancy is therefore
    considered and implemented technically good.
The same applies to the "Manual
Ad ", which the diver to
    are manually diluent or oxygen
    injected. The prototype has
a one-sided "Manual Ad", but whether
this persists in the series production,
    white designer Friese yet
not with certainty. "We have both
    combined and separate manual Ads
tested. Both have advantages and disadvantages.
    But we will decide shortly,
which option is to go into production. "
Distributors of SF2 is in German
    Area by the company
    dive2gether, whose Managing Director
    Horst Dederichs quite confident
    a short series start
    expressed. "We have decided to
the SF2 in the certification exam in Duisburg
to leave. There we are on high
    Expertise and friendly contact
    encountered by our project since
accompany some time. Since we are international
    Distributors are involved,
are the enormous costs to different
    Heads and distributed fairly
    manageable, "says Dederichs
    the strategy for mass production
    should lead.
Rebreathers are part of the PSA category
    III, which most technical
    Divers are well aware. Certification
according to EN 14143 is therefore imperative
    required for a circuit device,
As the saying in the German jurists say,
    "Putting on the market." Strangely,
This is handled very often lax. Various
    current devices have to
    still no certification, although this
    are commercially available. This Dederichs:
    "I'm still not a friend,
    the exuberant Zertifizierungswut,
not least the EU which we brought
, but is, there is legislation to
we are the manufacturer must adhere. A
Circuit device is a so complex
    technical device that a review
    by a competent and independent
    Location makes perfect sense. "
    (Editor's note: Compare
Please refer to the article "The CE marking
of diving equipment - (but) a
    Of quality? "In Peter Schetter
    Wetnotes issue 01/2010)
    After a long development and
Test phase to give the two friends at
her project full speed now. "On the
Boot 2011, we will introduce a device that
    be certified either completely
or at least the important tests
    already passed the certification
    has! "
    The team wishes the Wetnotes
them all the best in its ambitious
Project is and of course his readers
    more about news
    inform the SF2.

How will it be to breathe on rebreather that have the lung mounted so far down on your back like a pSCR/RB80?

Deco Weenie did this a few yeas back with an EDO 04 IIRC. He has a post some where about it. He called it the XCR, unfortunately his web page is no longer working.

I found the KISS lungs tolerable when vertical and good when horizontal so I shouldn't think it would any worse than a KISS Sport though surely?

*if* the CL is in the same place as the RB80, vertical is a bitch.

I havent seen any decent teardown pics, but I just dont get why anyone would use bellows in a CCR for a counterlung and especially why they'd keep nest counterlungs. It just seems like an exercise in making a car from a boat.

The fact was we did the first 3 measurements in a vertical position, the second in the overhead position and the 3rd in a horizontal swimming position. The first two, the pressure differences were in the range of 20 mbar, in a horizontal swimming position at a maximum 7.5. The whole min then at a AMV of 60 L / and a volume of 2.5 liters. Atemhübe ie 24 per minute.
In an AMV of 20 liters, the value of the horizontal position mBar reduced to below 5.
