    Wrek Trek Trip report 5/9/10

So a few uo us headed out with Capt Oliver on Avid Dive to do the wreck trek. On board was Leeann, Adrian, Marc, Scott, Tony and myself. We boarded early for the 30 minute ride down to the wrecks. And for once NOAA was right and we were treated to seas of 2 or less. The sun was out and it was a beautiful day. Hopefully, a taste of what the summer has ahead for us.

When we got to the site we hooked in to Scutti dropping down the line we had no current and near top to bottom viz. From the Scutti it was a short swim to the Tracy and from there to the Mercy Jesus. On each of the wrecks we had oc divers drop in from boats that had hooked in. It was comical to see the confused looks in the flailing bubble blowers eyes when they found us on the wreck with no bubbles and no boat directly above. Sadly, I spotted a lion fish on the Tracy. It was a juvenile just a couple inches in length and despite Adrian's advice to smash it with my gauge, it was tucked way up under the hull and could not be reached.

After three hours of crawling in every possible nook and cranny we headed up. It had been a great dive with near perfect conditions. And then we were treated to a fly by from a Manta Ray as we did our deco. Simply fabulous.

And to finish out the day we had a BBQ, joining us was Capt Addis, Danielle amd Don, in addition to those of us on the dive.

Yep, summer is here and the Florida S.C.R.U.B.'s are back in business! As Kim said, it was a beautiful day out on the ocean, and as if that wasn't enough, we dove a few of the nicest wrecks in the area. These wrecks are ideal for doing one long dive, because the three wrecks are lined up back to back, and they sit in 70 feet of water. Also, the growth on the wrecks make them great for photography - what could be better!

Here's a few shots I took on the dive and at Tony's get together after:

Here's a few shots of divers on the wrecks:

Here's a few shots of some of the many Angel Fish on the wrecks today:

Here's a few shots of divers during the dive:

And finally, here's a few shots from the post dive activity:

And yes, it looks like the long day got the best of Diver Lee:

It's funny, it almost looks like some of you are in a dry suit. Which obviously isn't right since the temperature was above 45F.

As someone who doesn't dive a drysuit, Imagine how I feel Erik! Because unlike you cold water divers up north who have a legitimate need to stay warm, down here there's just no need to have to witness a boat full of guys reaching into their pants and playing with their Johnsons as they suit up!

Don't be hatin' just because our cold winter water temps are in the 60's and low 70's
