Exclamation Petition to Teledyne Analytical Instruments

I have tried avoiding a separate thread to avoid being too obstructive.

However, people seem to be having trouble in finding the URL, so it makes sense to hang it here on its own.

    Background information:

    Teledyne Analytical Instruments | Applications
    http://www.teledyne-ai.com/pdf/tai_p...withdrawal.pdf

    The petition:

TAI to no longer participate as a supplier of oxygen sensors for the commercial closed-circuit rebreather (CCR) and semi-closed rebreather (SCR) markets Petition

Please forward it to your buddies, students, customers and business partners.

To mods: Any chance to lock it from discussion and make it sticky for reference only?

Why would you want to limit discussion? I for one am unsure whether this petition is good for the industry or not. As has been pointed out in the other thread the dive industry is a very small fraction of the O2 sensor market and if this is a move by teledyne to allow them to continue to make sensors for us while mitigating their liability then so be it.
    Cheers,

I don't want to limit the discussion on the subject itself, just trying to avoid hijacking or splitting the existing threads. I wanted to keep it simple by creating a single point of reference for the links on this matter. Otherwise we will end up with 3 or 4 active 30-pages long trails discussing the very same thing.

Well let’s be honest here... Teledyne has probably decided to do this for the following reason…

Divers can do stupid things like not follow the MFG’s recommendations around proper CCR predive safety checks and cell replacement. This behavior sometimes results in an unfortunate loss of life. Regardless of this obvious fact, baseless lawsuits are brought to the courts.

You add that to what a small portion of Teledyne’s business is the in the Commercial CCR and it does not make good business sense for them to continue to sell the product.

Net net… This is a self inflicted wound from some people in the dive industry that includes some that post on this list…

I have to agree with out on this one. This was more than likely brought on by rebreather divers not follow correct protocols with cells. I'm and still a little shocked when I hear of people using sensors past 12 months and its people like that is the reason this situation has arisen. Well that and the fact if the cells don't last exactly 12 months we send them back warranty replacement. Oh well I guess there is always AI cells which BTW I hear they are developing cells that will perform better.

Re: Petition to Teledyne Analytical Instruments

It's been a week and so far the petition has been signed with 216 signatures. I am a litte dispointed here. Given that there is over 25k members registered on this forum alone with 300-500 of them online at any given time, I find it strange for people not to participate as it is a very concerning development for any rebreather diver. Maybe you don't want to have your name there or you believe it won't have any impact on TAI - in which case you have nothing to loose anyway.

Please sign it if you haven't done it already as we will be closing it soon in order to send it over to TAI.

I did sign it on a very same day you set it up. I'm disappointed also and figured that you could easily get 10k+ signatures in no time. some wise man said "hope for the best and prepare for the worst"
