Maybe that's why the Free Trade agreements with the US are not so "free". But wait - there's more ....but I won't go there now.

The "revolution" is probably one of the biggest press releases ever issued......but hey, do keep on believing them.
Oh come on! Youll be telling us the Iraq war was about oil and not about WMD next!! :sarcasm:

Ah the good old internet thread.... rambling...irate...its just missing an example of godwins law ;)

So, to be productive, do TSA have training centres... maybe theres mileage in some of our US colleagues offering to do "CCR awareness days"?

An interesting idea. But more than likely for security reasons the only sources of information regarding what is permitted onto an aircraft are those that have been thoroughly vetted. And I cannot imagine the hurdles involved in becoming a trusted source. Probably not within reach of a mere mortal.

Besides, its not likely that there is any TSA rule that mandates rejecting absorbent. Its probably just that there is inconsistency in training and/or inconsistency in performance of the individual TSA agent, and the (probably correct) attitude that if an item presented is questionable at all, reject it.

Regarding showing an MSDS and the letter from Molecular Products about their stuff not being a hazardous material ... when I showed those things to the Continental rep and TSA agents at EWR two years ago, their immediate response was to not trust those documents as authentic, as I "could have printed them on my home computer." So when they let me check three jugs of 812, it wasn't because of those documents. OTOH, the Continental employee working the counter at GCM did immediately accept them as authentic, and she even asked if she could keep them for her records! And I was able to check an OPEN jug! So one never knows ....

    I suspect theres two aspects;

    1. Trust/Validity of documents.
    2. Ignorance - Fear of the unknown

Trust could be addressed by using reps who are recommended by those who probably already have approval (juergensen marine supply the military I believe, I'd suspect APD do as well and Mol Prod supply stuff for subs).
As for documents, personally I carry MSDS, but also have the hyperlink printed at the top of the document.

Ignorance would come from leveraging the reps to be able to deliver training.

    Re: TSA rejects Sorb!

Traveling extensively, using four different passports(thou, all in the same name), I found, that interpretations of the rules, depends, quite often, on the fact, if particular official, get laid last night or not.

that being said, instead of the patriotic pissing wars, maybe we should get together as a group, formulate and sign a petition to TSA demanding official standing on absorbent issue.
If the answer is positive, we can attach the copy of the letter to the sorb container. TSA officer probably don't give a shit about Continental or any other airline internal policy but may be not so eager to contradict official statement of his own agency.
If the answer is negative, ............ we are doomed.

It really depends where you go. I think Miami is the worst of the worst of the worst. Processing at Lagos, Nigeria is even more pleasant and orderly than Miami. Customs, TSA, etc. at MIA are the rudest, most unprofessional, incompetent idiots I have ever come across in all my travels. They just need to carpet bomb MIA and start over. JFK is a little better, but that's not saying much.

On the other hand, Houston and Atlanta have been awesome. I usually inform TSA they are going to see some weird stuff when passing my carry-on rebreather through the x-ray. The 20-something year old kid working the machine said right up "dude, that's nuthin' but a rebreather. we knows what we's be doing here at the A-T-L." They had me laughing my ass off.

On the west coast they have gotten really good about CCR's. They just look at it and then take it over and give it a swipe and away I go. But a 2 yrs ago it was you need to stand here sir and they shut the line down until they swiped it with the bomb sniffer.

Well it was more about taxation and no representation......

We have some Home brew trouble on the North Border and it is caused by the second worst after customs enforcement "Trade Unions playing Politics"
All travelers are getting harassed because of the nice Union Jobs and political disagreement in North America.

    Andreas,

Can you explain what you mean by this "All travelers are getting harassed because of the nice Union Jobs and political disagreement in North America".
Also some type of backup documentation.

    Thanks, Al
