How to make own trimix cheaply?

I need to start making trimix for myself. Ideally, I would like to fill my O2 too.
I don't want big, noisy equipment.
I'm not thinking of driving around in a taxi throwing money out of the window: I want to keep the upfront equipment costs under control.
and I want to keep it reasonably simple.

How would you recommend I set things up: what should I buy and where should I buy it from?

For the record, yes, I have a trimix gas blender ticket.

For CCR use I would get a small say 100l/min HP compressor. Then just fill trimix by continuous blending (add O2 and He to the compressor inlet air through adjustable flow monitors)

For O2 you need 3 rented storage tanks (200Bar 50l) and a booster if you like.

The cheep way to run a CCR is to buy pre mixed Js of gas and run a mini booster off a paint compresor.

I buy two 50ltr Js of 18/45 and one of 10/70 Then I have two Js of 02

I use 18/45 for everything above 60 and deeper than 60 ill put a bit of 10/70 in the mix and dive what ever comes out as long as the PP02 is less than 1.1 at max depth

My whole rig cost lass than £1500 but the price of boosters has gone up so id say maybe £2000 now.

If you go for a panel and a compresor to do your own blending then add another £3500 at least.

Mixing trimix in 3ltr tins is a sod to do. Best to either blend into Js or even 15s and decant from there or set up a loom and fill three X three ltr tins at once.

    You'll need

    HP Helium
    HP Oxygen
    HP Air

    Obviolsy

so minimum is a decanting whip £330
    Oxy Decant Assy Din/Gauge - B/Nose Ndl/V

    Compressor £2000 (£1000 second hand)
A small 100 lpm bauer junior or ColtriSub MCH6 with second filter

Then if you want to get the most out of your cylinders you might want a booster
    £1000-£2000
    Gas Boosters

then if your doing lots you might want a panel £2000-£3000
Blending panel for Nitrox - 3 outlets
    Tri Mix Blending Panel

    My set up:
Outlaw Divers , Photos - Ancillary Equipment - Compressor
Outlaw Divers , Photos - Ancillary Equipment - Sport Haskel Booster set up
So it really depends on how much your willing to spend?

    Hi Mark,

What sort of a filter are you using? Is it enough and/or do you clean the booster from time to time, using it for O2 too I imagine.

    Regards

    Marc

You shouldn't need to filter the drive gas for a booster. It's just running the mechanics, it shouldn't be exposed to the supply gas.

Hum yes but the separation between drive gaz and O2 HP is a signle O ring so in case of a leak there is a risk of ignition...perhaps a little bit less risk with an "oil clean" drive gas.

Not sure so any advice is good

    Thanks

Re: How to make own trimix cheaply?

Marc-- i was going to post this exact question today after the trip I just returned from !!! I was thinking I was interested in addding Helium only, then topping off with air at the LDS (free) to get 10/50... Then getting O2 fills from the shop at a reasonable rate... But now I am thinking this thread displays several alternatives that offer a completely "self reliant" fill station at prices that are within the budget.....ehh... within the limit of my credid card

    Thanks !!!

    Best,

    John
