Re: VR3/Explorer/Shearwater units on Rebreather World

This is a great poll cause i'm looking for a computer for my dolphin (still SCR) the only monitor i have is the oxygauge. I have owned EVERY/ALL the Cochran computers that's avail (including the navy version). the customer service is great. Had one tech rep come to hawaii to do somemore research cause diving on the island, your probably going to have to go to an elevation to get home. you get credit for slow accent. the rumor is they are going to come up with a PPO2 rebreather computer.
I'm getting a shearwater cause it's hitting all the criteria i'm searching for, with the exception of being outside the US, that's a shipping issue though not a IT'S NOT MADE IN THE US SO IT'S CRAP comment

Re: VR3/Explorer/Shearwater units on Rebreather World

The score so far:

104 members have voted. Here is a simple aggregation according to these votes:
VR3 has 61% share of the total, HS Exlorer has 29% and Sharewater the remaining 11%.
Out of the units sold by each manufacturer, the situation in Europe is as follows:
51% of all VR3 units sold are in Europe, so are 50% of the Explorers and 45% of the Sharewaters.
Something a bit fishy is happening here. i would expect the % of VR3s sold in Europe to be much higher and the Explorers to be lower. Does this seem right to you?
Come on people, please cast your votes!

Re: VR3/Explorer/Shearwater units on Rebreather World

I purchased one of the early explorers with interface. It was DEAD when I took it out of the box. A bad pressure transducer in a unit that was never tested at the factory. I was starting to sell them at the time, sent it back to my distributor and said no thank you. Received a complete refund.

I have a VR3 without VPM that I used up until last year. Didn't like the deco schedule and the function controls through the 2 buttons are a PIA. When I took it off my wrist, I had to add a pound of weight and no longer have a balance issue It's for sale if anyone wants it.

I use a Cochran EMC-20H. It works; it's simple; I like the deco schedule. I carry a set of OC back up tables just in case.

Maybe most people don't want to admit to having purchased either one

Re: VR3/Explorer/Shearwater units on Rebreather World

I have one of each. The Exploder has never made it through a dive trip, it failed on 2 different trips to Truk. I just tore the repair ticket off it and it failed on its first dive last week. I bought a VR3 as a back-up and it failed on its first dive. It worked on the surface but failed at 190 feet, apparently the battery is too large for the case and the battery wrapping must be cut off.
