| Dude ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | VR3 ambient pressure problem? When I turn on my VR3 it tells me the ambient pressure is 832mbar and i am at 1497m altitude even though I am at sea level, and theres no drastic storm outside. It also tells me the ambient temperature is 131 deg C. How do I compensate for this incorrect ambient pressure? It it presumably going to impact on deco calculations. Does the temperature get taken into account for deco calculations. Does anyone else find the VR3 battery only lasts 2 weeks, even when not being used? Does anyone else think the VR3 is an expensive pile of shite? I am loathe to send it back for repair during what is a very busy dive season, but maybe I have no other option. I couldnt find any other option for CCR (apart from cochran or nexus, but didnt want to go there) Andy |

| Despotic Overlord ![]() ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | The Other option is the Hs Explorer, Gene who makes them is a member of the board. I know it is what both Rob Davie and Joe Radamski dive and they are both very happy. In fact I am probably going to get some myself.... Stuart |

Andy,I second what John says here. I use Lithium batteries they last about a month or so, fortunately I have 2 VR3s, but only because you can never rely 100% on one not going tits up. Send it guaranteed next day and they will get it back to you extra fast. And personally I would not bother with the Explorer, seen too many people trying to smash theirs. Cheers, Dave Cooper

Does the temperature get taken into account for deco calculations. You don’t its faulty get it fixed. They are very sensitive to being dropped / banged. I have had two fail on my Vytec both my VR3's have been OK but I tend to be ultra careful with them like wrapping them in my dry suit for travel to and from site.Quote: Does anyone else find the VR3 battery only lasts 2 weeks, even when not being used? This indicates a problem with the magnetic switches. My batteries last months. Removing the C clips holding in the switches and removing them will usually show up the problem with external faults if not send it back for an internal insp.Quote: Does anyone else think the VR3 is an expensive pile of shite? NoI have two VR3s and the only faults I have had are corrosion in the cable port due to the crap plastic cap breaking and having to try a repair with gaffer tape to complete the weeks diving, (repaired free of charge) and a line of the LED screen going dead £40.00 to repair. There is only the HE explorer on the market which even comes close to being as good a computer and that also has a range of niggling problems. Try sending that back for repair and see how you get on. If Suunto brought out a CCR multigas decompression computer that did what the VR3 does I would be interested. I have been impressed with Suuntos UK support. Apart from that there is nothing out there of interest. Quote: I am loathe to send it back for repair during what is a very busy dive season, but maybe I have no other option. They will turn it around quickly and get it straight back to you. The company is run by divers so if you give them the date you must have it back by they will endeavour to meet that deadline.ATB Mark Chase

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Computer Problems Folks, I have two VR3's and one H-S Explorer. I won't knock the VR, because it's a good computer. I tend to like the H-S more because it handles helium very well with the full-up iteration of RGBM that it uses. It can also switch to Buhlmann if I wish. Every computer has its pro's and con's. The VR has a small screen, even with the upgrade. The H-S is not made out of metal. ANY wrist-computer, however, dislikes having heavy objects dropped on it, or being banged on the gunnel. I will say this about Gene Melton and his company, Hydro-Space Engineering. Any problem that has been reported to him or his people has, in my experience, been handled very promptly! Just my PPO2's worth! Rob Davie

Hi Rob Just to clarify the situation, I don’t doubt the service from Gene but it’s the problems associated with sending it back to the US from the UK that’s the issue. My instructor (Paul Marks) had a few issues with his Explorer and the turnaround time was painful due to postage and customs rather than anything else. He also agrees that the deco profile options on the explorer are better than the VR3 but I am hoping the new VPMB version of the VR3 will address this. 8 weeks and counting for this but no indication of cost yet ![]() ATB Mark Chase

He definitly likes the Explorer but its been far from trouble free. ATB Mark Chase
