Can anyone give me some advice on the VR3 please. I've been using the VR3 and the 4th cell on my inspiration which is going ok.

However I took it for an open circuit dive to see how it differs from tables. I used a table taken from a GUE software plan which I've dived many times before and is very conservative.

During the dive the VR3 instructed me to go back to 25m when I was at the table depth of 20m, because I stuck to the table, the VR3 switched to 'use table mode'.

So I have a couple of questions-

Surely the table is more conservative than the VR3? If not, is the factory default setting very conservative?

If a stop is missed on the VR3, why doesn't it recalculate and penalise me with an additional stop or longer time a shallower depth?

It just doesn't feel right on a 50m dive using a table that a computer tells you to go deeper and stay longer.

To be honest, the VR3 scares the shit out of me more than the Inspiration!
Don't mix and match dive profiles. Either use the tables or use the VR3. Both work fine and i found the VR3 set to zero safety ran similar deco time to Deco planner 20/80

Using DOTF, Pyle stops or a VR3 will always generate deeper stops than using GF deco with a 20GF low. The stops are a lot more random than the computer generated GF stops but they don't do any harm and might be doing some good.

The Use tables warning is just to show you you screwed up the ascent. The computer still carries on calculating deco and I have dived it again the same day and the next day without a problem and despite continued diving the use tables / error mode will go away on its own.

I have done three years of diving on the VR3 about 270dives and its worked for me. I cant see the point of running tables as well unless you do the whole ascent on the tables as a bailout plan following the failure of the VR3.

If you want a GF computer thee new Sherewater is comparable in price to the VR3 and offeres GF programing and PP02 monitoring on three cells or a forth cell. I just sold my two VR3s and have purchased one because of the same problem your having. In my case i am using the VR3 to back up the Hammer Head GF deco. The profiles dont match so its a problem. Hopefully the Sherewater will be closer but no two GF programs are the same.

As the man above said if your VR3 is scaring you more than your CCR you dont fully understand the CCR
