VR3 Cover Price

Has anyone else noticed the absurd price for the VR3 screen cover ??. I have recently been quoted £17 since losing my own, now residing on the sea bed in the Red Sea, when I am sure that it was £7 originally.
Can anyone tell me who supplies them the cheapest and if not has anyone started to make their own.

Just go to you local electronics store and get a PDA screen protector and cut it to size.. There really is no need for a "hard" protector.

Last time I purchased them I paid $10 for a pack of 12

Re: VR3 Cover Price

Cheers guys,
Beenie I paid £7 when I got mine and thought at the time that that was a bit much for a bit of bent plastic but was happy to get it to protect my new toy.....£17 is a bit stiff I reckon and little difficult to justify....I'm certainly not encouraged to buy another.

Jradomski..good idea, I have done a similar thing in the past for other computers but have not considered it for this one.

I may look into making my own and if it works ok I will let everyone know.

I started making one for the Vision handset, it just need bending.
To be honest you could probably get away without bending it, Could bungee it on or even gaffer tape it

Re: VR3 Cover Price

Agreed, there is bound to be a solution..I normally find that us divers will come up with one eventually.
To be honest though I can't help feeling that we are being stiffed because we managed to find the funds to buy the unit in the first place so if I can come up with something else I will.
Cheers

Re: VR3 Cover Price

I just use clear contact. Remember the stuff we used to cover our school books with, back in grade 1???

Replace it when it needs it, usually ever coupla months, its all good, and prolly costs less than 1c per cover... :-)

Re: VR3 Cover Price

Sadave, cheers for that...I may do something along those lines to start with but I liked the old cover as it was quite tough and could take a bit of abuse.
However your idea would keep it safe until I resolve it.

Re: VR3 Cover Price

I have had nothing but trouble with the screen guards, think I'm onto my 4th!

I had a word with them at the Birmingham dive show and told them about the problem, the woman I talked to said they were working on it and went into the back and gave me a freebie

All of my diving in the UK is from RIB's and may take a little more hammering than from a hard boat, ie you can take your kit off sat on the boat, not faffing with it in the water increasing the chance to catch them, but I hope they can sort a better design soon.
