All VR3 HDs are have high resolution color screens, but you only get a two color display unless you pay for the PIN to activate the multi-color display option. So, let the debate begin on PINs... ![]() Sincerely, Paul Hi, I have seen the new VR3 HD on the web. I cannot find the information if all VR3 HD have from now all colour displays ? Out of the box, they are enabled for multi-color mode on the color LCD. After three dives are logged, if the optional HDCOL PIN has not been entered, they automatically 'downgrade' to single color (i.e. black letters on white background). Note that even in single color mode, the contrast and readability of the VR3HD is significantly improved over the previous 'monochrome' LCD. I suspect many divers will find the single color to be perfectly adequate for their needs. Since the multi-color mode is now a PIN upgrade, I recommend delaying the purchase of the HDCOL PIN until you have experienced diving both the multi-color and single color modes and can make an informed choice. -- Mark Last edited by n2diving : 10th June 2008 at 22:18. |

Sorry (and I'm going to burn Karma points for this), but are you F'ing kidding me? -- Mark Please tell me you're kidding about the color only being available by PIN? So the manufacturer spends the time to a) create the color hardware (ie. integrate to OTS components), b) the color software interface and then c) Screws the customer when they buy and HD version and turns the color off? Sorry DeltaP (and I have had GREAT support and love my VR3), but that is just as dumb as the 6 versions of Microsoft Vista. And if you don't get that comment, tell it to your software engineers who I am SURE cringed when you told them to design it that way. ps. By the way, using HD in the name only makes it look like a acronym grab for high-tech. People like me shudder at that unless you truly added "High Definition" capabilities to it, such as higher resolution data capture, not some tiny color QVGA screen.

Divers will be more inclined to activate the color feature after they get that little 3 dive teaser. More divers will also buy the PIN to make their units color, as opposed to sending their existing unit in for an LCD replacement. Bottom line is more divers will end up diving color units, and more $$ in Delta P's pocket. Please tell me you're kidding about the color only being available by PIN? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Vr3 Hd ????? Hello, Having only one to produce and support makes sense. It is also nice for the dive shops and distribution chain as they don't have to stock two versions any more, just one. IMHO they should have just raised the price $100 for everyone and made them all color activated and be done with it. Doing it this way just makes them seem like money grabbers. The teaser 3 dives is really brilliant marketing, but in the end I think it will leave a bad taste in people's mouths. Sincerely, -p

![]() | Re: Vr3 Hd ????? Hi, Personally I don't care about colour, but I don't like this bull shit too. For me it's a poor marketing strategy and a strange business behavior, I have already noticed from this company... Why do they add costs by putting a ****ing colour display and after that downgrade it to black and white ? For me this makes no sense and I don't like that. I will probably go for an another computer if the dealer cannot arrange something :-) Shearwater Pursuit will take market shares, I think... Thanks a lot for the answers. Cheers Humuhumu
