Do you have the classic b/w screen? In that case it is possible but with the color screen no.

VR3 dealers have to sale the original XENO 3,6V Lithium battery. Otherwise try to mail directly to the battery factory and ask for a dealer nearby.

I did find a dealer in Switzerland, not that far from me.

Sorry Barrie, but I have to call you out on this one. Have you ever gotten 100hrs with the backlight always on with a 1.5v battery? I certainly never have. I'm lucky to get 10 dives(about 25-30 hours) out of a 1.5v(and everybody I dive with that uses a VR3 has the same battery life) with the backlight always on. I switched to 3.6v lithium, and thus far have gotten 50-60 dives(100-150 hours) so far, and I always have the backlight on(I dive primarily in caves). That battery was still showing 3.2v when it went back to Delta P last week due to the problem I was having with it....and I'm sure they'll replace the battery, so I'll have to start from 0 hours again to determine how long the battery lasts me. The battery that is in it is the one that was in it when Delta P sent it back to me after a software upgrade(I forget the brand, but not one I've ever seen in the US).

Mike
Mike,
I also use the 3.6v Lithium in my Vr3 but I have not checked the 100 hours use for the 1.6v as shown in the comparison chart, the point I was making was 20 mins from a battery could only be caused by a fault.
So you are right to " call me out on this one" and I put my hands up for not checking the detail, the backlight in the 'on' position will reduce the battery life but I do not have exact time differences.
The 3.6 v Lithium will also make the colour screen models appear to flash when they are new but this stops when the battery is used for a few hours.

Cheers

This is great information. Seen as I have thrown away the original battery that came with the VR3 (didn't realize that it was going to be an issue), I just want to double check that Xeno is the brand name of the OEM battery from Delta P?

Thanks

Yes, they shipped some pieces to me as spare parts. In the meantime I found the factory and the Swiss dealer.

However I have to say that a couple of customers of mine had little problems because of the hardware: it was a leak of energy somewhere and the battery lasted just 10/12 dives.
If you have the same problem after the right battery change, go to your dealer or to Delta P, they're aware of that.

Use to be Saft LS14500, so I would not worry about the brand, I am sure they change to Xeno for cost reason !

Re: VR3 battery?

I use Rayovac 1.5v alkaline battery's in mine £2.99 from B&Q for 20, cheap as chips AA batterys and last about 15 dives (15-20hrs) then they are down to about 1.3v so i bin them and stick a fresh one in just for safety (dont want it going down on a dive) back light is always on underwater as well .

have aslo used duracell with no probs either but these cost about £4.99 for 4 and i did not find that they lasted any longer than the cheapos did so you can guess which battery is in mine now .

The xeno cell is a cheaper product than the saft cells but they also have a poorer performance..

Re: VR3 battery?

Hi Henry

I've bought 3.6 v littium batteries in Vancouver while I was there last time. They work great with the VR3 (color screen) and are much cheaper than the DeltaP ones.
They are from SAFT and I've bought them at the Battery Shop (I guess this is the name) in Boundary Road. Ask Bruce for the correct address, if you can't find it.

Take care!

SAFT has the best performance 3.6v lithium cells but be careful of the model number..

The correct model number is ls14500 DO NOT get the "c" (ls14500c) versions, they may look like they have a greater capacity butthey are designed for memory backup uses..

Tadiran also has alot of 3.6v (in AA size)variants with varying performances, the most common one with adequate performance is the tl-2100 atall costs stay away from 51xx series..
