New Screensaver Mode

All VR3 Experts,

Just a quick question with Screen saver mode on the new V2007 VR3s.
(I'm talking about the feature which shows PO2, Depth & Time).

What happens when you get near a deco stop?

Does the screen saver revert back to the main screen?

Does it count down the stop for you?

Does it even tell you what depth the stop is?

None of this is clear from the manual, and it seems like a good idea (PO2 in nice big numbers), but just wondering whether anyone uses it and how it actually works in practice.

Thanks,
Michael

Re: New Screensaver Mode

Hi

The very short answers are:

- Nothing happens, the screensaver stays active...

- No

- No

- No

= If you are near a deco stop, you will need to press one of the two buttons to switch back to the standard display mode.......

Re: New Screensaver Mode

I have to say I agree with DINspiration.

It is not really a lot of use except if you have 2 VR3s straped on as it won't change unless you press one of the buttons.

I am about to write to Delta P and ask them to add a few changes to it as it really is a good idea but useless in it's present form. Whether they listen and make any changes is another thing but I have to admit they have been very good so far.

The TTS is a great feature if you want to keep track of how long you'll have to hang around before you get back on the surface but you really need a prompt for the next stop and the duration of that stop.....as for the other info then hit the button.

Regards,

Lance

Re: New Screensaver Mode

Thanks Guys,

I had a suspicion that was the case. I hope Delta P consider your suggestion, because if it doesn't warn you about the next stop, and a current countdown, then it's quite useless.

They are nearly there, but not in it's present form.

Cheers,
Michael

Re: New Screensaver Mode

I just got back from a trip using the new VR3 code and found that the screen savers stays on when in deco and ascending to the next stop. It is pain to keep hittting the switches to see where the next stop is. I also plan sending email to Delta P to see if they can / will alter the code to disable the screen saver when you are in deco.

I wrote to them a while ago suggesting that they make the 'dope on a rope' appear on the screen saver when you are into the stops. Hitting the button every minute or two is a pain if you are using VPM with lots of short stops, maybe less of a problem with Bhulman?

Nope, still a PITA with Bhulman. The screensaver tells you nothing about your stop until you go past it and it starts flashing at you!!

Re: New Screensaver Mode

It gives a new meaning to the term 'bend and mend'! I had this feathure on for about 5 minutes during the first dive with the 2007 software. Did I mention ?

I also thought that a screen saver was originally for a CRT screen... so there's no real use for it on a VR as a 'screen saver' is there?

Re: New Screensaver Mode

This morning I got a reply from Al Wright at Delta P. I'm sure he won't mind me pasting it here.

<paste>

1. Add the next deco stop and duration to the screensaver. Done already on Sentinel Software and to be available on next major software release on the VR.

2. Add a function to automatically switch off the screensaver when ascending close to the next stop and alert the diver to the stop. Interesting, but I think the software mod above will help.

<end paste>

I guess all we have to do now is wait for the next software release.

Regards,

Lance

Re: New Screensaver Mode

I heard back from Delta Tech and they are aware of the 'limitation' and the programmers are working to resolve this 'feautre' in the next release of code.
