Angry VR3 faulty "dive mode" on the surface

Guys
I have a peculiar problem with my wife's VR3. We bought 2 VR3s late last year and did about 12 dives with them up to know. However, on the last dive trip her comp worked fine for the first 2 dives. After this (over night) the comp "thought" it was diving and went into dive mode between depths of 15 and 350m!!!! I had to remove the battery to hard reset the damn thing. It was fine for one dive and did exactly the same thing, even a week after we got home. And yes I did soak it in water to try to get out any salt residue.

Anybody else experienced this, or know a solution????

I would really appreciate any help/comments

This is a problem with the intersema sensor (other DC manufacturers have the same problems with the sensor).. Send it back to Delta P... There is a good chance that the sensor is beginning to leak.. however it MIGHT be a small blockage on the sensor.. take a flash light and shine it in the hole (back of dc) and look for debris.. The only way to clean it is to take the computer apart and unmount the sensor..

I had exactly the same problem with 2 VR3's that were bought together, It is a known fault, send it to DeltaP they usually have the computer back to you in a week.

Re: VR3 faulty "dive mode" on the surface

Thanx guys

I am based in South Africa, so getting it to DeltaP is not that easy. A friend of mine bought the two units from DiveLife in the UK, so getting it back to the dealer is the same amount of crap. I will first try to see if our local representative/importer is willing to help me send it to Delta P. Just glad that it does not seem that I did something wrong to break teh VR3!!!

While we are chatting, can I ask you a question on the PC software to download dives and perform profile setups (if you know):
- will one installed version on my PC be capable of managing both units as seperate entities?
- will the software be capable of differentiating between two different divers (and obviously 2 units) downloaded dives?

Thanx again

I take you point on returning the computers

I have not found a method to make the software manage the units as separate entities, I even tried creating 2 users on windows Xp but in the end it is still only one copy of the software. Its been a while since I have bothered downloading the VR3's but I seem to remember when you download you can give a name to the series of dives, so one persons dive could always start with KK the other VR3 JJ so they will be distinguishable. There certainly isn't any functionality to change users like the suunto download software.

Not an expert in tihs by any means, but if you have multiple users on a windows machine, when you install the dive software you can specify that its only available to that user. It'd mean doing two separate installs, but would certainly create isolated copies each with their own databases.

Your not alone, While in Tenerife at the begining of January my VR3 made a record breaking dive to 504m for 4 mins this would have been pretty good given the fact I was diving with air diluent and at the same time having lunch at the cafe on the marina. Has anyone else had a VR3 decide to go diving on its own? On the next series of dives I had missed stops beaming at me and lots of deco time which I didn’t deserve

We were having lunch sitting outside and the computer was in the sun and heat, could a sudden temp change cause a vr3 to act like this, just curious and wondering if it could go bananas on a dive. So far it’s been perfect and no trouble on any dive just this strange event.

I bought this computer in July last year and it sounds like there might be a faulty batch out there

Nope
I think I would have noticed if this happened. The VR3 even logged the dive in the logbook.

Re: VR3 faulty "dive mode" on the surface

Mine did the same thing! I had a number of 1000'+ dives logged! I tried letting the battery die then reentering the pin. It worked OK for a while, then started acting up again while I was diving. Its off at Delta P now for repair. Hopefully that won't be too painful an experience!
