Re: VR3 3 weeks old and is dead!!!

Hi,

The quality of some 3.6V batteries are really a problem. I had a batch of 7 faulty batteries! They last only for ONE dive and still during the dive I got a "Low Bat" warning. I made the best experience with fresh SAFT 14500LST or the Duracell 1.5V. A good 3.6V battery is working on the colour VR3 for 20 - 30 dive hours (including O2 cell reading).

Also the Duracell 1.5V will last a long time with a colour VR3 if the backlight generally switched off and only switched on after pressing of the two switches.

Used 1.5v duracells in my mono VR3 for the last 4 nearly 5yrs with out bother. Backlight always on as in the UK it is mostly needed, get around 15-20hrs out of the battery.

Like Nad already indicated. When using 3.6V Lithium batteries you REALY REALY REALY have to cut the plastic from the battery end that goes into the endcap.

Due to temperature changes and extention of the battery lenght as a result it'll get stuck in the endcap and the spring isn't able to push the battery back in the battery compartment. If the thing cools down it'll shrinck and break the contact.

99% chance that cutting the plastic from the battery will work. 1,5V batteries are typically caoted so don'tave the problems seen with the thick plastic wrap on the Lithium batteries.

Cheers,
Paul

Hi

The new SAFT 14500LST are a bit smaller and you don't need to cut the plastic at the minus pol. The standard SAFT 14500 batteries and a lot of others are to big and you MUST cut some of the plastic.

Re: VR3 3 weeks old and is dead!!!

hey guys,

i've tried to cut some of the plastic on the battery. it started working a bit, and then going off. it was as if the connection was short and then on again.

i took the lithium bat out. i've put one of the old type energizer / duracel bat AA 1.5 volts, and it worked fine. it read 1.6V and it was working.

i started having some serious thoughts about lithium batteries after this...

Thanks to all.

Spyros.
