Thumbs down Re: Delta P New Releases

Having had all sorts of fun with setting up the link last time, I won't be upgrading my VR£ v2.1 this time thank you.

I take my Suunto Vyper with me as a dive logger, in gauge mode. I can download the latest software for nothing whenever I feel like and I can actually see beneficial changes and a reason to do so, on a tested app with a modern-looking front end. Installing the VR£ Downgrade seems pointless.

Looking forward to the up-and-coming dive computers giving us a bit more choice in this respect.

The idea that the software is all there but we charge to unlock the extra bits may feel like a way to deliver it in a cost effective manner but it leaves a bad taste.

One of the happy 'diving kit' days last year was unpacking my Vision upgrade and sorting the bits I needed from the bits I didn't.

Back to the upgrade... I couldn't get the previous logs to import so I downloaded what's left in the computer again. I had a few lockups and restarts but got there. Now I need to find out where it stores the database so I can back it up.

Nad,

Thanks for the update... Does this version of proplanner support the Delta-P flavor of VPM also..

Thanks

Mark
Hi Mark,
the Proplanner included free with the new downloading software is still the old Buhlmann only DOS version.
The new Proplanner is shortly to be released as a separate product item and this WILL have the VPM support.

Best,
Nad

It's around 120£ (VAT not included) for the C42 and C43 package (including Prolink, Proplanner, PIN, USB, etc.)

Best,

Nad

The new USB to 7 pin I/O connector cable, (item C43 on our Price list, see amendment attached), comes packaged in a dedicated zippered pouch together with a Pocket CD-R containing the Prolink 2007 dive-logging software, Dos Proplanner decompression software and Drivers.

The stunning thing is a new software to be Beta tested . However on the CD They are sending out there is a ancient DOS program. It seems the assumption is that everyone uses still old PC beside new machines at home.
Since Proplanner is used by VR3 folks would it not be progress to integrate such a program into Prolink 2007

You could always buy a Shearwater. It seems much better thought out and does more.!
I've flogged my VR3. I pissed off with their attitude over upgrade to a never need to upgrade computer. In which case why wont DeltaP upgrade my VR3 with 3.03aA firmware and 2 pin connector to the latest VR3 colour screen with 7 pin connector for free. because they need to make money but since the electronics only cost a few pounds then why would it cost me £500+ to get this upgrade!!

exVR3 owner.

!!! !!!

This is just pure, unjustifiable greed. Plain stupid to treat customers like cr@p. In my money this is going to be over AU$250, for a USB cable, a 1990's DOS dive planner and a revamped dive logger.

Forgive me, but all this $$$ for a computer that gives 6m stop which are double the length I can get out of ANY dive planner starts to feel like a ripoff.

Did I mention it also failed on it's first dive past 50m?

Can I have a death to VR3s smilie please?

I agree the Sherwater has a useful dive display. I have not tried one yet.
To the 7pin configuration I have not seen any layout or description what the pin configuration is. It might be possible to build the cables ourself to save some cost. Some out there with some knowledge?

The issue with upgrading old computers is a real problem.
In the past I had UWATEC stuff and those I had to replace every 5-6 years. Cost disadvantage but you got the latest Model as an upgrade for an affordable price.
For a manufacturer it is of interest to get rid of the old equipment because that stuff is expensive to service.

Hoewever in the last post; I was making a point about the software; and the bits and pieces of Software. The ancient DOS Dive planner and having different programs. Also the new release not having the dive planner included. And little value to by-packs of expensive cables and IR readers. Not to mention that the VR3 rep. is making a good xx% by selling those items to the public.

I know both the UWATEC and the VR3 and what makes me unhappy on the VR3 is what I'd like on the UWATEC. It seems the OC dive information is fine on both.
The Ouroboros VR3 has relevant dive information cluttered over 2 to 3 different screens which must be called with several different key strokes. The Gauges or Setpoint are in a different pages. There is a PO2 dive info screen but the inventer forgot to add the Gauges.
I have not found a good reason for the VR3 information clutter.
UWATEC has all info is in two always visible display.
I would like to see the VR3 display a bit better organized. What I also would like to see is user upgradable firm ware . To be fair the VR3 has a good low power consumption hardware and not too many issues with water leaks.
Andreas

Re: Delta P New Releases

I have an old VR3 and still work perfectly in CCR (as back up) and OC for deep dives. I never upgraded it, why do I have to do it? Now (after 5 years) I can sell it and buy a new one.

During the dive I don't need any other information beside depth, time, stops and mix.

However I hope they keep going on like this. Prices are a bit a pain and I think this is also because of £.

For me the most important are a working tool and the service after sale, the rest is just nothing.

Nad
