| Re: Exploring numbers in 350-400 fsw off New Jersey Wow I am amazed that the bottom temp was 51. I wish it was like that here in Boston. No hoods!! Nice!!! Viz and water color looked good to. At what depth did they stop getting amibient light? What was the reported viz at 400', 120' and 20'. Sorry for all the questions but don't keep me in suspense here.... Dave |

| Re: Exploring numbers in 350-400 fsw off New Jersey Dear Dave There was a good amount of amibient light on the bottom. It just never got dark. Viz was a solid 40 feet. We got very lucky conditions. We splashed at about 10:00 am so the sun was high in the sky. We were all very very surprised at the bottom temp.On the Hang I was sweating my ass off so Evan and myself pulled back Our Hoods. Ironicly last week I dove the Carolina and at the bottom the temp was 51 at 250 feet and the water between 150 feet to 70 feet was 45. Today I dove the Oregon and the temp was 46 at 120 feet. The Oregon is only about 12 miles off Long Ilands Shore. The gulf stream is mixing with the colder northern water. I have to say we got very lucky with the conditions. But after all 85 miles off shore is a far way;-) Cheers Frankie |

| Re: Exploring numbers in 350-400 fsw off New Jersey I got to dive the Oregon yesterday with Frankie. On the way out we chatted about the deep dive. I have to tell you it was very impressive the amount of time and planning these guys did. The dive protocols were spelled out, all the i's dotted and tees crossed. Very proffessional fellas Congrats to all.Regards,Andy

Its funny, I'm only 200 miles north of you and water temps in the 300'-400'+ range never get above 43 and are usually 40 or so in early/mid summer. At 45' it heats up to a nice 50F and the next big jump is to the mid 60s+ at 20'. We get no ambient light whatsoever beyond 220', even 20 or 30 miles off shore. Stay safe and keep up the posts on your expeditions. Dave Faye |
