I'll send you a suggestion, bet you can guess what it is Quote: for short bottom times at this depth (under an hour) there should be substantially more required deco for Heliox, but as the BT increases the difference will become smaller and smaller and eventually the Heliox diluent will have a shorter required deco.. Thanks for the info Joe. I'm intrigued, and need to look into it more.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: The USS S-5 and Resor I might be mistaken but I believe the escape hole was patched during the salvage attempt. Also of interest is the cut out from the S-5 hull is in a museum in DC(?) I remember Barney had posted a pic of it on TDS some time back. that would make sense. there's a nice pic in the book "under pressure" as well.-b |

![]() | Re: The USS S-5 and Resor Over the weekend I verified what XJae and Mike had said regarding Atlanthus/Atlantus. Two separate, distinct vessels. The concrete ship, Atlantus, wasn't involved in the S-5 rescue. The rescue vessel actually was a wooden, steam-powered freighter built during the war for coastal trade. I also located photos of both ships, which show distinctive differences in hull and superstructure shapes. It seems they were making ships out of just about anything to save on steel for the war effort. Both ships were less than economical to operate without a war going on, so both were sent to Virginia for layup in mid-1920. Atlanthus was actually on her way to the boneyard when she came across the S-5, which was why she had a skeleton crew on board. |
