Diving week in Malta - August 2007

Hi all,
I am just back from a great diving week in Malta and I wanna write down my first impressions and maybe some interesting information about the dives we did.
Let me tell you first that even though i was not able to dive the deep wrecks it was a fantastic trip.
I have to say thank you to Venom for all of this: he and his wife are really special persons, and they were able to take care of me in all I needed, almost like a baby
Thank you guys.

Talking about diving I have to say that Malta has tipical mediterranean dive sites, not particularly colorfull but characterized by a very good visibility (in Gozo we found cristal clear water and 20m or more of linear vis was the standard for Malta) and rich of fishes.
The warm water allowed us some "very long" dive, even on a wet suit at a depth of 40mt (I have used a dry suit for the deepest trimix dives).
We were able to do 9 different dives for a total of almost 21 hours on our units in just 8 days! (86mt was the max depth, 3h40' the longest dive time).
Venom, but to be an excellent diver & dive buddy (very important because sometimes this 2 features are not present at the same time) is also a good "dive guide" : he knows very well the dive sites around the islands and he was always able to advice me on wich one to do considering wind, currents, vis and other things.
Unfortunatly a failure of the diving boat we were using to dive the deep wrecks forced us to "simply" dive the shore dive sites in Malta & Gozo.
Well, for sure I did some of my best shore dives!
Taking advantage of the capabilitis of our Vision reb and my Submerge UV26 scooter we enjoied some 3 hours-scooter (!) dive around malta's reefs and wrecks.
We did the ROZI together with a new wreck in the same area, the UM EL FARAUD (beautiful huge wreck in 37mt of water) and even the Imperial Eagle! (wreck referred to be diveble "only by a boat"), in 41mt of water
Of course, would be impossible to dive her on OC or without a powerfull, reliable and long autonomy DPV (that one was a 3h40m dive, dive profile on my pics gallery).
Scootering all the way to the wreck and to the abyss Crhist statue needs very good knowledge of Malta's shore as well as very good navigational skills (no signs were on the way!)
Both rebreathers were working fine even though we had some major difference in the computing of OTU & CNS exposure for such long dives, probably due to different version of our vision software (i will analyse the details soon).
One of the nicest dives were the ones in Gozo at the Inland Sea & Blue Hole as well as the 3hour dive at Reqqa Point (beautiful reef, plenty of fishes, 2 beautiful huge caverns).

Since I was able to dive just one deep wreck (the German E-Boat from the WWII at a depth of 65m) I am already planning to come back for a week during spring 2008 for a sort of "expedition" to Malta's deep wrecks; some of the best seems to be the POLYNESIAN, the SUBMARINE and the RUSSEL but many others are present.

More than all I am sure that will be a pleasure to join again Venom and just turn the scooter on and dive!
I will post some pics in my gallery shortly.

Safe diving to all of you.
Gabry
