Re: Titan CCR

Wow, two 2 liter tanks flanking a scrubber with a single counterlung on top.
Haven't seen that ... since the 70's Shadow Pack I from Divematics USA.

That one was a bit taller though, due to the 8 lbs radial scrubber.

With the passing of Rob it will probably be a very long time.

To quote the man himself-
April 13th- Rob Davies
“I've been doing a lot of diving in the tank at Ocean Corporation doing developmental work on the Shadow. Other than that, I've been going crazy getting ready for my Red Sea trip.”
Man, I miss you Rob!

Bill,
WHAT have you been up to sir?

Are you divemastering this year in the gulf?

Later all, Andrew

Ditto on missing Rob. He was a personal friend and mentor. I miss him like I can't explain.
The boat I worked on has been sold and going back to work in the oilfield. No DM job for me in the Gulf for now.

Louby lou is supposed to be copying the article over to Rebreather World, so look for it to be posted here soon.

Re: Titan CCR

Great write up Ron!

Well, the system is very interesting but as you mentioned has some issues.
  • I am not thrilled about having the solenoid mounted in the breathing loop. (no,no)
  • I do not like the cobbled low pressure hoses; how are they going to fit other size tanks?
  • The case while nice is outdated compared to the travel cases that everyone seems to be moving towards. So that could be a nice change and reduction.
  • Single bladder gives me a bit of concern with volumetric gas flow and speed through the 'ash tray' (oh micropore thingy.) Someone pass the kitty litter.
  • The airlines typically destroy luggage- PERIOD. So taking the filters would take up a lot of space and having them delivered to some places in the third world would be a joke. Flight restrictions would also impose on the case.
  • Manual injection into the loop is a requirement- KISS style or other.
  • BOV- a must (or at least as an accessory.)
  • XS scuba is NOT a brand name that I trust with gas delivery. Diverite maybe, Poseidon heck yeah.
Question-
How were the sensors after the dive? Dry, moist, floating in lung butter?

Personally I would rather have the Sports KISS and the Shearwater Electronics or the Shadowpack with Shearwater electronics.

What I would like-
Duel counterlungs, manual injection (both gasses), basic scrubber case, small (stingray style) back counterlung case or prefer OTS counterlungs, Diverite regulators, BOV.
Yeah, it’s a start…

I guess a lot will have to do with pricing…
Interesting..
later, Andrew

Re: Titan CCR

You MUST get rid those ratcheting plastic hose clamps in the production version. I have had plenty of those catastrophically fail and completely release after just several years of use on hoses used on salt water reef tank filtration systems.

I did go over the unit briefly at the Long Beach Scuba show yesterday, its not vaproware.

Either you guys are too hard on manufacturers who show pre-production prototypes, or you've been spoiled by the slick engineering execution of production Vision electronics by AP, or both. You have to do quick and dirty fiberglass hand layups in quick and dirty prototype molds before you commit to making expensive molds for ABS injection for the final product.

The unit was nice and small, but I didn't really pour over it.

It's still in pre-production mode as far as I know... Based on that I would expect that the manual is non-existant at this point.
