| Who loves ya, baby ![]() ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | The Buzz From Scuba Show I already posted some picture of Deep Sea Supply's Evo backplate adapter kit and h2ophotopros booth from the Long Beach Scuba Show. Silent Diving Systems had a booth across from SoCal dealer Scuba Schools of America, and in between them a bunch of APD rebreathers. Jetsam also had a booth, and it too was constantly busy with people checking out the two Sport and a Classic KISS. It was manned by Eric Ingram from Jetsam and Alan Studley. Met Alan at DEMA and enjoyed seeing him again. The new quick connects for the hoses are very nice, as are the new displays. Just the quick access to the DSV's one way valve make it worth to upgrade, as does the ease of disassembly for hose cleaning/drying and travel. The new displays are also an improvement over the orginal ones, more user friendly and easier to read. Prototypes of the larger scubber cannister Gordon announced at DEMA have been build a while back and tested, and the production verson should be available soon. As the question came up recently, I asked about the VR3 and K1D sensors, both at Jetsam's and DeltaP's booth. The answer was the same, the VR3 works wth the K1D sensors. As different resistors were mentioned in the thread, I asked specifically about them. They are needed only in the displays, not in the VR3. Actually, if you asked nice enough, Jetsam will cut you a VR3 cable to the correct length. ![]() At DeltaP's booth I was told that VPM would be introduced at DEMA (October) for the VR3. What I couldn't find out was if it will be VPM-B or if the additional delay would bring VPM-B/E. Also, C.C.R. has sold the first batch of Ourobors CCRs. Neither Gordon and Kim nor Kevin where at the show, they were all off diving ... Dive Rite and Halcyon both had booths, but neither RB80 nor Oh-Tooptima were on display. Innerspace, Steam Machines and OMG were not represented, nor did they attend the show in the past (although local shops and divers had Azis, PRISMs and CCR2000 on display in the past).

Top write up mate well done. When I spoke with Kevin Gurr at OzTek about this he said that the VPM algorithm that was going into the VR3 was their own work and not a straight chop over from V Planner. How much difference there is remains to be seen. I recieved an email from them a couple of weeks ago saying that it was going to be shipping by the end of June/early July. Time will tell. |

| Who loves ya, baby ![]() ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | It's a pretty small dive show and for most part geared towards recreational divers. I can't remeber Lamar, Jarrod et al ever attending it. Usually the local reps and one or two people from the manufacturers. The last couple of years Halcyon for example displayed the RB80, but didn't really have anyone to answer any questions. Steam Machines attended it years ago, but other than a shot weekend it didn't get them anything. If anyone wanted to check out the rigs, they were within 15 miles of the show anyway. Silent Diving (APD in US) attended for the first time, they combined the two days at the show with two intros at the SSA stores. Before that, SSA usually had YBODs and Drägers on display. ANDI usually either shares a booth or is next to them (they are a facility), so depending which instructor is there they had other units in the past, like a MK15.5. With ANDI adding the KISSes and the Meg to their training programs, chances are they'll be there in the future. The guys from Jetsam attended for the first time, and took the ferry to Catalina last night for some diving. ![]() I saw my Inspration at that show a few years back. The late Garrett Weinberg was sitting alone in his booth with his Buddy, playing with his brandnew VR3 (brick). What a kind and patient man he was. He talked with me for hours, and I went back the next day just for another conversation with him. Rebreathers, caves, the Blue Holes of the Bahamas ... Garrett told stories well. I'll cherish those 5 hours I spend that weekend in his company. It was good company. As for the VPM implementation, as I said I'm not sure. I was told that Kevin and Eric Baker were working on in it, but no specifics. Could well be that they will ship before DEMA and just do the official introduction there.
