Re: Salvage /recovery question

Well, as I have a slight idea what wreck you think of salvaging, I would say a single 100kg lifting bag attached to the bow should do the trick... But add a rope to the surface for a supporting boat so that the wreck doesn´t drift away, and they don´t have to attach a new line for towing...

Re: Salvage /recovery question

What a great learning opportunity. Take lots of notes and pictures. I think we'd all like to see the results. Make sure nothing is above as well as below the project. Even the best salvage job can bolt to the surface and lose buoyancy and go right back to the bottom. Sounds like you have a good hand on it though.

Hey Numpty, did you have a go at salvaging that boat or what? How'd you get on?

Ok, fair enough I s'pose. That's the Leander class frigate HMNZS Canterbury (formerly HMS Bacchante) which was sunk in Deep Cove last November. It's an almost perfect wreck. 15m at the bridge, 38m at the props.
Cheers.

Re: Salvage /recovery question

Using the hot air from padi OW instructors might work...Of course it will be ballested by the Bull shit from the agency.

I was thinking actually, that he wasn't using enough HE to tell the truth. It's a pretty poor salvage that you can't fit at least say a 100Kg of PETN into. Might even save the need for the lift bags. I calculate that he will need approx 50KG carefully placed around the hull to cancel out the suction. Folwoing by a secondary blanket charge of approx another 50Kg to give the hull some upward momenetum.

Of course, he must fill the whole exercise so his collegues at Rebreather World can review critique and if necessary, make some suggestions for next time...
