![]() ![]() | Re: Awesome video footage: Bio- luminescence and cephalopods As a former Biochemist, I feel the need to give credit where credit is due ![]() Most of the cephalopod footage comes from one of the worlds leading experts on cephalopods, Dr. Roger Hanlon. He works out of the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, in Massachusetts. In fact it was a treat for me to see him speak at the Boston Sea Rovers clinic this year in Boston. In the scientific realm everyone is humble, so I will toot his horn for him. As a former Marine, I am fascinated greatly in the ability for the cephalopods to be able to process their environment and develop one of three patterns to blend in with their environment; Uniform, Mottled or disruptive. Dr. Hanlon referenced the possibility of incorporating this technology into active camouflage in the future. WOW, now that would be something ![]() Great post and great footage!!

There's not a lot of Rebreather friendliness yet here in these parts. There may be one outfit in Sipadan (SMART divers) but I have never visited. All of the offshore oil production platforms in my location have made great habitats. However, the companies prevent anyone from diving near these, that is, unless you can sneak in bubble"less". Unfortunately for me, I've been the only Rebreather here for the last 3 years, and now moving away. |

Love that cool tone of blue biolumenescent bacteria, like the flashlight fish that live on the Pacific Gas wreck in PNG, so many that you can do a night dive without a light, one of my favorite dives. And I can watch octos and cuttlefish for hours, so amazing that they can change texture and color in an instant. It takes a wreck YEARS to change it's texture and color ... |
