dont worrie dave,as bush has already won the war in iraq long time ago ( i seem to remember a speech on an aircraft carrier, or was it a rubber duckie or no wait it was on that show "who wants to become an idiot" no no wrong again, but doesn't matter anyway) , so well back to the topic, as the USA have already won years ago and haven't attacked anyone since, i take this as a sign of a) bush is now a peace-loving candidate and has decided to smoke some dope and possibly shag some sheep at some point - however unlikely
or b) he has simply forgotten how to work that red button and as long as no-one tells him to put his finger on it and make it really really heavy , well they cant go to war as the chief in command hasn't done this important job.

So we should be somehow safe for some time, and i just got of the phone with the government of palau - i was assured there are no plans to take their waka out, mainly because the 100 mighty warriors have decided that it is just to f$^%$% exhausting to paddle even out of the harbour and have decided instead to have some kawakawa.

It should be pointed out that only a few years ago USVI and BVI still had an agreement that allowed BVI fishermen to fish in USVI waters and USVI fishermen to fish in BVI waters. This made sense due to the close proximity (~1.5 km from beach to beach) of the two jurisdictions and shared resources (fish can't read maps).
However, the agreement was dissolved unilaterally by UK/BVI about 3 years ago. This apparently was in large part due to BVI charter boats feeling slighted because of the USVI charter boats doing so well; apparently the tourism agencies in USVI were doing a better job of getting customers down to St. Thomas and St. Johns compared to those in BVI.
Prior to the actual dissolution of the agreement several charter boats were confiscated; captain and crew were allowed to return to USVI but their boats were seized. As the original post points out, it seems they are now going after recreational boats too.

having been kidnapped by pirates a few years ago (whole dive boat and divers chased, boarded and held ransom) Indonesia - I know how powerless one can feel. Our Pirates were the best armed and funded in Indonesian waters - The Indonesian Navy!.

The most interesting part was to see the different reactions from the different nationalities on board. The SE Asian divers slept, the Americans were visibly and absolutely stunned and outraged that this could happen to them ("we are Americans!") spent their time huddled together actually discussing how/if they could rush the pirates!! and the Bristish divers just grabbed as much of the beer as they could and drank it before the Pirates could! (only thing worse than a poorly paid, armed pirate, is a poorly paid drunk armed pirate

)
