Now she'll be in my head for the rest of the day and I will do nothing else today. I came to this thread hoping to learn something but now I'll waste a whole day. How is that image a waste of a day?

No idea, but lets get back to the torque wrenches,A man could die happy. What was this thread about again? i do have 5 3 variables 10-40 Ncm and two fixed at 25 and 35 Ncm hmmm, however dont think this was a tool box topic, and anyway Doris wont understand us as we are not talking battery powered tools/toys. Come on Ceebs - you started the torque wrenches and now we are moving on to battery powered toys which leads me to the all important question - shall i go for 6 V (3xAA) or better the 12V variety ???? if i am looking for a valentines present ?

Something dentisty? If you don't have a torque wrench, you can use the Grunt scale. For this the ideal tool length is 10"-you know, one that is just long enough to get four fingers along the length .One Grunt=80Nm if applied with a 10" tool. Therefore a scale of Grunt can be worked out, althought this is non linear: 1/4 Grunt = 40Nm 1/2 Grunt = 60Nm 1 Grunt = 80Nm 2 Grunt = 100Nm There is also a Ting rating for ratchet spanners. For a 1/4" drive the handle is usually 5", the Ting is about 40-60Nm [1/4 - 1/2 Grunt]. For a 1/2" drive you normally get a Ting at 110Nm on a 8" handle. The Ting is usually followed by the Swear as you have just buggered up another ratchet spanner.

So we have to screw carefully not like you mechanics who can wanke teh srews in. ![]()

WHAT???![]() I hope you mean 'whack' and I'll put it down to you spending too much time with sheep. Screws aren't whacked in, they are screwed in. Nails are hammered in. Road surfaces are compacted with a 'Wacker'. The only thing that is whacked is a piece of malfunctioning or recalcitrant equipment. Or dentists that take the mickey out of engineers... ![]() I had a trainee with me the other week who didn't know the difference between a screw and a bolt .
