Re: Airlines always come up with something...

just wondering when they will have scales at the check in to weight the passengers as well.

a: "Sorry sir you are 10 kg overweight, either loose your luggage, loose some weight or pay up"

on the other hand as my wife is only 50kg, would this mean i can become a fat bastard as long as i fly together with her ?

And now, as of May 5th, US Airways starting to charge 25$ for a second checked bag.

I was not really able to find out if this also applies to international flights, they only list an example that if you fly from the West Coast via the East Coast to Europe, you still have to pay the 25$ for a second checked bag.

I think I won't be flying with US Airways anymore!

cheers,
RBN

well after my last flight squeezed between a 500 pounder and a 300 pounder, i think there should be an "overweight" charge (that is for the persons size!). they get on me for having my bag 5 pounds over, which really gets me going as i weight at least 100 pounds less then their average customer, then they have the nerve to say the extra charge is for the extra fuel! ha!
now about checking bags, i would never check my camera and would be very unlikely to check my CCR either. if they showed up i'm sure they would not work properly! so i guess the days of traveling to dive for me are getting towards the end if the airlines continue to get more unrealistic. just my thoughts. let the lively discussion begin!

Given the Air Accident reports now showing a number crashes where due to over weight passengers, then not very long I would assume. Time for that diet I keep promising to do!

Re: Airlines always come up with something...

Check with each airline. We recently traveled to Central America and found out through some backdoor channels that our airline had an exception to their weight rule when it came to scuba / skin diving equipment. We were able to receive a photocopy of a handbook page stating the would take up to 100lbs of scuba / skin diving gear at no additional charge. The bag had to only contain dive gear. I still ran into a little difficulty at the ticket counter, when the woman said it was an FAA rule about being over 70lbs. I have since confirmed the "FAA rule" was bullshit.

Re: Airlines always come up with something...

When ticket counter agents start spouting bs about weight restrictions being FAA imposed, ask them for their name and badge number and tell them you plan on pursing it further. They will either do a 180 or call their supervisor over, who hopefully knows what they are f'ing talking about.

The only thing the FAA cares about is whether or not it is toxic, caustic, or will blow up.

A little preplanning like the above poster will go a long way in thinning the bs I see from both sides; airlines and travelers.

Re: Airlines always come up with something...

Does anyone know if they are honoring the old rules on tickets purchased pre announcement?

Not if you are flying to or from Europe. The maximum weight for one bag is 32 kg. (health and safety regulation for the bagage handlers)
