![]() | Dorothea Quarry HI FELLOW DIVERS WHO DIVE AT DOROHTEA QUARRY. WENT ON MY FIRST DIVE OF THE YEAR AT DOROHTEA AND IT SEEMS NOTHING HAS CHANGED. THE AMOUNT OF 4X4 VEHICLE ON THE PLATFORM WAS A JOKE AS U WILL SEE THE COLLAPS HAS STARTED TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE PLATFORM. IF THIS IS THE START THERE WILL SOON BE NO PLATFORM LEFT SHORTLY. IF U LADS THINK IT IS THE ONLY WAY U CAN DIVE DOROHTEA BY DRIVINDG DOWN WITH YOUR 2 TON VEHICLES I SUGGEST U JOIN A GYM. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE HOW SOME OF U LOT WOULD GET BACK UP THE LADDER AFTER A DIVE ON A HARD BOAT FULLY KITTED UP WITH SIDE MOUNTS ON IF U CANT WALK UP THE HILL AT DOROHTEA. PLEASE LADS LEAVE THE 4X4 AT THE TOP. AND SAVE THE PLATFORM FOR THE REST OF US FIT DIVERS. OR GET A SET OF DONKEYS FROM BLACKPOOL BEACH ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Dorohtea Quarry I was at Dorothea yesterday too. It's a pain in the arse when people leave their cars on the platform as it makes life feckin' hard for everyone else if they want to pick stuff up. It'll be even worse if someone needs ambulanced off, if mountain rescue turn out then I've seen them drive down before. On the other hand, I haven't seen any worsening of the concrete. The platform on the right has been like that for years, pretty much since it was laid. It's more to do with the crappy job the old developers did. The platform is going to collapse regardless, you can't compact unsupported slate waste or leave a soil bank exposed to water and not expect erosion and I'd be surprised if any reinforcement that's in it isn't corroding as the concrete is way to thin to give any protection. It looked worse than it was yesterday because the water levels were high and were above the level of the dodgy concrete but I'd bet hard cash that the concrete level hasn't changed. The bigger problem is the amount of shite people leave behind them, especially whatever twat dumped a pile of lime in the water just by the platform.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Dorohtea Quarry Personally I do drive down - IF its not alreadly busy so that I can keep the weight of the car well away from the unsupported edge and can still leave others room for manoevre - that generally means only 1 other car there. Occasionally I have been the only diver there and at least the car might be a bit less obvious to the local yobs (always wonder if I'm going to see it again before I surface - would make an annoying deco stop!) The amount of rubbish divers leave is a problem and as Rebreather divers it would be good if we could take our lime home and dispose of it properly, dumped lime does identify Rebreather divers as a particular problem - with all the rest of the kit its not That hard to take a poly bag on a day's diving! On a practical (though optimistic) note, thare are a lot of us using Dorothea. If every diver brought a few decent chunks of slate up from 6m and lobbed it under the overhanging platform it might stave off the day when the platform breaks up - with or without 4x4s. Neil
