Drysuit sizing help

OK, first off no cracks about not needing a drysuit in Florida

I am skinny and get cold very easily. I recently had a wetsuit custom made, but that is obviously not going to be good enough for year round diving.

On my last dive I got so cold hanging on the line that I ended up braking my lower partial and biting through my mouthpiece. I ended up with walking pneumonia and plastic embeded in my gums and cheek that the Dentist had to cut out. Been a bad week

Back on track now

I am 6'0" and weigh a whole 130lbs. None of the drysuit sizes will fit me according to the size charts. Can anyone give me any advice on a size to get? Do I have to get this custom made also? I would like to find a used one to purchase so a custom one will be quite expensive.

I don't know who makes up the size charts for Drysuits, but I think they do it so they can sell custom suits. I'm 5'11 & 250 pounds. I fit into XL stuff as far as clothing goes. I've never found a stock size drysuit that fits. The suits for my weight are all for guys 6'2 and above.

My last two DUI's were custom & I have a Bare custom and just ordered another Bare custom suit..... I like the DUI suits, but the prices are off the wall now. The Bare suit is less than half the price of a DUI and almost as good.

The custom charge from most of the manufacturers is around $200.00 and well worth it to get a suit that fits correctly.

Hey.... Want to borrow about 60 pounds? Then maybe we wouldn't have to buy custom suits!

At 6 feet & 130lbs, I bet you do get cold. In the long run you will be better off to bite the bullet & get a custom suit, most drysuit problems go back to an ill fitting suit. I would get in touch with Steve at Gamble Scuba. He knows drysuits & may be able to point you in the right direction as to which suits would be right for you. Drysuits

Re: Drysuit sizing help

I, too, shelled out a lot of extra money to make sure that I would have a suit that fits.

If I had an extra 60 lbs I might not need a drysuit

My Dad was 6'2" tall and 135 lb when he was drafted for WW2. 4 years later, no change. Lots of doctors later, no change. 6 pack of beer each night for a couple of years, 180 lbs. Beer is good!

Another vote for a custom measure drysuit. I went the custom DUI route and was worth every penny. Just be CERTAIN to get someone experienced in measuring for drysuits to do the numbers, because you will get what you order.

Re: Drysuit sizing help

echo the responses so far ie custom made is the way to go for the suit - worth the money - so long as the fitting is done properly

but don't forget a custom made undersuit too, and get that sorted first

Re: Drysuit sizing help

I have ended up with a DiveRite 905 Front Zip. Size is small and it fits like it was made for me.

Hats off to my LDS (fill express) for ordering it in for a trial fit.

I have a few dives on it and am very happy with the quality and the fit. I was hoping to save some money by buying a used one, but at least this one will smell like MY pee.

Thanks to everyone for the advice.
