Hmmmm... the English whinge about how much is spent in Scotland but they won't allow independance... I wonder why... oh dear would that mean they'd have to be nice to lots of countries other than just the Saudis... maybe that nice Mr Putin lad...what a shame all the UK's natural resources seem to lie in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland...
I love this debate - it's even better than the West Lothian question . Over time, it's become so clouded that I couldn't even say which side is right in their claims that they are bearing the cost of the other side.

Anyway, as a not-really (i.e not when it suits me not to be ) English person, I do have to say that I'd be very sorry if you lot declared UDI. The dent in the Exchequer required to keep you is a small price to pay for Oban and the Orkneys!

Cheers,

I can't verify this for myself as I don't use Texaco.

One of our engineers filled up and asked for his VAT receipt, and the bloke behind the counter showed him that it, not the card receipt, had his full 16 digit card number and expiry date printed on it.

Apparently Texaco know about this but the IT fix is 'too expensive'.

If you fill up at Texaco make sure you get the VAT receipt to stop some unscrupulous bugger printing it off after you have gone and getting your card details.
Get an Allstar card instead. Much simpler in the long run.

Yeah but it's fun

We don't cost you as much as Northern Ireland does and we are much better value In fact, they spend more per person on Londoners than they do on Scots. And the good old Beeb... 8% of the licence fee comes from Scotland but 3% of spending goes back... Yes, I'm an SNP supporter

Once we have independance I'm sure we can come to an arrangement over the Orkneys and the west coast. Maybe a toll crossing over the border and a diving permit system, a token cost, perhaps £20 a day...

Personally I would welcome Bush taking over Scotland then we wouldn't have to put up with Brown in charge any longer. I voted for full Scottish independance that last time round, unfortunately to many Scotts knew when they where on to a good thing.

You must be, you have the numbers to hand . I'm sure they can't be true (urgently scrabbles through anti-Scots propaganda ).

Thanks for being so kind and welcoming. Remember, the same will apply to Scots diving the South Coast and Cornwall (not common, I grant you, due to the unwillingness to fork out for the fuel to get down there, but....)

Cheers,

He's an improvement on Blair. Not by much though.

Can't blame them, I don't remember much of the 70's apart from them being not very good, power cuts, strikes, unemployment... not the time for cutting off your own funding.

We'll have to fill up on our cheap local diesel at the border rather than fancy imported stuff on the M6.

I always chuckle at the thousands of southern divers that make the trek to Oban or Scapa but you get a handful of Scottish divers on the south coast. We can ask the EU to subsidise any permits we have to buy to dive there, we'll probably get a grant for new kit and our own boats as well

Re: Texaco petrol stations [UK] warning.

Being a trecky (I look forward to claiming i come from Earth rather than dull old England I like to believe integration into Europe is one small step toward the ultimate goal of global resource management where countries are assigned work on the basis of their optimum product.

We would be totally reliant on each other on a global scale and peace will inevitably follow.

So when i read about the lads a couple of hours drive away asking for independence I immediately see the true meaning of devolution.

Evolution back wards, a step in the wrong direction, a return to devisions and boundaries, them and us.

Its all a bit sad really

We like it that way

Don't go as far as that - just ask Mr Salmond to fund them as a contribution to the education of the masses and an improvement in national fitness. The cheque will be right along in the post.

I'm only jealous....

Cheers,

It's a wonderful aim (and one I truly hope will work one day (though I'm no Trekie). I wonder if it can ever happen though? We'd all have to subvert our self-interest for more than a mere second - can't see it myself.

Yours, sadly,
