DEMA - Golem Gear recap

We finally recovered from DEMA, although not unpacked completely

I wanted to summarize the new Golem Gear stuff that we showed at DEMA for those who could not make it and for those who missed it in all the clutter in our booth (note to self - get a bigger booth next time)

First I wanted to thank to all who stopped by, it was great meeting so many new people and seeing old friends. We were so busy that I did not even had chance to walk the rest of the show.
Back to the gear, we introduced few new items at the show:

- Q-Vest, new Dry suit heating vest and light system available with 10W HID, 15W LED and 35/50WHID light heads. More info..

- new BOV with compact second stage and Drager valves

- Golem BOV based comm system, does not require FFM, modeled after LAR V combat swimmer unit.

- Divesoft He/O2 Analyzer with new patented design - no helium sensor to get ruined by moisture, includes pressure sensor and MOD, best mix calculator

- new Mini radial scrubber

- Two new rugged wings designed specifically for CCRs - one U-shaped ~40lbs and one travel sized circular small volume (~30lbs) wing. Both have narrow top part behind divers neck, offset inflator elbow and more lift in the lower part

- padded protective Cordura cases for rebreather handsets. Include spare battery pocket.

- last but not least, we were privileged to display the new Juergensen Marine Hammerhead CCR. We had three models at the booth,
  • - the eCCR - fully electronic unit,
  • - an mCCR, constant mass flow unit in smaller, travel size, "The Hobo"
  • - and a meCCR which combines the constant mass flow with a solenoid "parachute".
Last two units had prototypes of our new backmounted counterlungs. See the latest issue of the Advanced Diver Magazine for more details, there is a 4 page write-up on the unit with nice illustrations.

Overall we were quite happy with our first show.

There will be more details on all this gear on Golem site soon.

Thanks for all your support, we would not be here without you.

Re: DEMA - Golem Gear recap

Jakub -

I am glad to hear that the Hammerhead CCR is actually something real. After reading about it in ADM I tried to find more information about it from both the Juergenson site and the Golem site. But there is not a single word I could find about it.

When will more information be available?

Ken

Hi Jakub, thanks for the post/info. New BOV looks great, glad to hear you're going with Drager flappers. But do you have any concern about 2nd stage free flow while scootering or in a stiff current with the diaphram facing forward?

I love my side mount kit, you make great stuff and I'm sure you'll get some more of my money soon, keep up the good work. -Andy

Re: DEMA - Golem Gear recap

Hi Jakub & thanks,

I am very interested in the vest, any idea on price and date of availability, I can guarantee you a fair few orders from Switzerland?

Thanks again,

Dave.

Hi Andy,
Yes, we are concerned, that is why we are still testing it and tweaking the final design. There are tradeoffs in everything, the current BOV might freeflow when bobbing on the surface, with the diaphragm facing down. I might have a unique solution to the freeflow problem.

I'll post pictures and more info on all the stuff mentione above. The entire web site for the Hammerhead CCR is in the works.

Oh, and I forgot, we also introduced a G2 adjustable Hog harness. It is a simple webbing harness with all the standard D-rings but we added heavy duty SS adjustable buckles to shoulder straps for stiffs like me. This way, you can loosen the straps, don the rig and cinch it down. When removing, loosen the shoulder straps, open the buckle and walk out of the harness. The buckles are heavy duty stainless steel used on Search and Rescue harnesses world wide - if they can lift two people into helicopter then will hold the kit on your back.

I did a two hour cave dive on the BMCLs in a strong current and determined that there are some small modifications needed to improve WOB. The good news is that the counterlungs do not interfere with sidemounted AL80s at all. There is enough room for both and the OPVs/dump valves are still easily accesible. More diving and testing is needed
