Lets hope that the bunker oil is contained. No news of leakage. My thoughts goes to those who lost their lives. 3 dead confirmed, but that number will probably increase. Will probably be lifted and transported to a dock. Or, it could be towed out to deeper water and "lost during towing" New wreck to dive on ;)

What a mess. It almost seams these modern cruise ships have too high a center of gravity.

I find it hard to believe that this still can happen with modern technology...
I guess human error will persist.

Technology is not perfect, and people have learned to ignore it.
There was a Canadian Ferry that sank (with a loss of life) when the crew on the bridge ignored the warnings of the navigation system.

For the wreck diver who posted earlier, there was a report , that there are fears if the ship is not righted soon, it may slip into deep water - 230 feet.

This is where is read it:

Tragedy on board the Costa Concordia Updates | Mikey's Cruise Blog

and this is the text:

9:35 AM UPDATE: DIVERS ARE EXPECTED TO ENTER THE COSTA CONCORDIA FROM UNDERNEATH THE WATER TO CONTINUE SEARCHING FOR PASSENGERS. THESE MISSIONS ARE EXPECTED TO CONTINUE FOR 2-3 DAYS. THE SHIP IS NOW EXPECTED TO SINK ANOTHER 230 FEET. THE CAPTAIN OF THE SHIP IS CURRENTLY BEING QUESTIONED IN GIGLIO. WE WILL KEEP YOU UPDATED ON THESE NEW DEVELOPING DETAILS.

This is a giant ship 114,500 tons! If it sinks upright, the top of the funnel, the bridge would be quite high.

No! Human Stupidity!!!! Those have all the bells and whistles of alarm system on board. With a ship this size, you have more than one person on the bridge, too. They had to be stupid!!!

Why did they not send CCR divers in. They could have searched longer.

I am quite stunned at the type of gear and methodology the rescue divers are using

OC is simple and reliable.

My guess is that each area is searched then the divers return to the start point and report. CCR offers no benefit in this regard but some draw backs.
At this stage they are/ were still looking for survivors so will not be diving down in fully flooded areas.
