Full Face Mask and rebreather?

In some rebreather instruction i could read that is not made for full face mask. Do any one have experience, is it safe to use full face mask with rebreathers? What if i want to use buddy phone, is it impossible while i diving rebreather?

Cool Re: Full Face Mask and rebreather?

Hi,

Full face masks are ideal for use with rebreathers. Alot of the Russian
military ones used full face masks to ensure diver suvivability in the case of O2 convulsions (well, they were using pure O2 to 20m!).

Most full face masks can be adapted to rebreathers. I've used an inexpensive Cressi-Sub full face mask with a couple of rebreathers. I've also used the Russian one supplied with my IDA 64A.

Hope this helps,

Cheers,

Paua

Re: Full Face Mask and rebreather?

The Kirby Morgan Super Mask is unique in that if you have to bail out you can release the breathing pod and stick a reg in your mouth without much drama at all...

Re: Full Face Mask and rebreather?

I use a Drager FFM with my Optima. I find the mask very comfortable and the p-ports are awesome. If you are considering a FFM you should really look into a compatible BOV. In my opinon a BOV is a must if diving FFM with CCR. You can see a video of me practicing FFM removal at the link below. It was shot on a sunken bridge span in Panama City at a depth of around 75 fsw.

Re: Full Face Mask and rebreather?

For the "Dräger Panorama Nova Dive R" FFM there is a mouth piece for the Dräger Rebreathers. Alternatively you can get an adapter from TecMe (Martin Tolksdorf) to use the mask with the APD Inspiration/Evolution OCB. I have just chosen the latter option and am keenly awaiting its delivery.

I tried a number of FFMs on the Boot show in Düsseldorf. To me the Dräger mask seemed to be the best option.

Re: Full Face Mask and rebreather?

Complete flexible solution here
Golem Gear, Inc. - Rebreather BOV - Vario - Inspo/Evo
or here
Golem Gear Shrimp BOV for rebreathers

You can switch the BOV from bite piece to P-port in under 2 minutes.
