Independant ppO2 monitoring

From what I understand of the Apoc design, the monitoring right pod contains 3 "special" O2 cells (with no temperature compensation), which are plugged to a complex circuit board for processing their signal. This on-board computer does a bunch of computations, including other stuff, and ends up "displaying" the ppO2 through the PFD, the voice, and later on, wirelessly to the matching computer.
So this is *one*, powerful yet complex ppO2 monitor.
Say I want to add another, fully independant ppO2 monitor: different battery, different (simpler) circuit board, different display. For example, a shearwater or subsea display. Obviously, I can't share some of the existing cells, as they are apoc-monitoring-specific.
What are my options ?
- punch a hole in the counterlung, fit a Draeger P-port and insert a regular P-port holder in there
- the canister head whose picture was posted a while back shows holes for fitting cells. Can I use one of these to install a classical R22, tap a thread somewhere on the side of the head, run a wire through a cable gland exiting from the head and fit a display there ? Is this doable ?
- other options ?

Thanks.

In fact, it's not "one", there are two different circuits, working on two different principles, otherwise, true redundancy would not be possible.
But again, let Alex explain things on that :)

Re: Independant ppO2 monitoring

Monitor comes with 4 O2 cells either PSR-11-39-DL or Teledyne

- Alternative PPo2 monitoring fitted ::::Forth Diving Services::::
{Shown plugged into counterlung 3rd pic down left column, being viewed bottom pic right column}
- If you saw a O.R. single scrubber EAC eCCR head with O2 cells fitted that it likely to have been the Incursion head which isn't being sold by OpenSafety (though it would be nice if they did). The Apoc head is likely to be a tight fit to get an R22 in, it might work though: will be interesting to see. An alternative to this that is coming out is http://www.grpservices.com/stuff/occamsrazor.jpg by Narkedat90 or something HammerHead by J.M. or something X1 by Liquidvision.
- Other alternatives:
  • Replacement loop elbow with 1 or 3 cells fitted by someone like tecme.de
  • Some clever bunny machining a replacement scrubber that will take kitty litter and has room in the head for cells &/or solenoid.

Regards
Brad

Ah, this is interesting. And operating off the same battery ?

Re: Independant ppO2 monitoring

something worth noting, if you fit sensors in the Apoc "lid" thats actually on the exhale side!

Brad, thanks for the details.

Yep, I thought about that, but I'm not sure it would fly based on where the monitor is fitted. Or maybe inside the
case, between counterlung and hose connection ?

Yeah, that would be cool too

-Tecme.de style custom elbow would only work if you bought a vanilla Apoc mCCR without the Monitor (PPo2 & Co2 pods) fitted & the flow design would have to be well though out to not screw with the gas flow path.
- Between CL & Pod/Elbow would knock everything out vertically (down), would likely only work if you stripped out the O2 cylinder and used that space to drop down into, relocating all of the internal attachment points.
-There isn't the room between the scrubber & the CL's, at a guess you would likely screw up the WOB or gas flow: unlike regular flat CL's (MSR) these CL's take up all of the room they are fitted in, the space is engineered around them.

Re: Independant ppO2 monitoring

Adding 3rd party O2 cells can be done easily using a sensor ring that goes in between the male inhale hose and its female P-Port on the top of the unit.

We have given the port details to all firms that asked for them (CAD files, and samples).
