    To boost the pressure when filling from one tank to another.
    Allows you to have a higher pressure in the cylinder you're filling
    than the one the gas comes from.

    Some people call it a scavenger pump which is a bit better at describing what it does. If you blend by partial pressure or fill by decanting then unless you have a bank of cylinders to fill from then it gets quite wasteful as there can be a load of gas that will be unusable in the supply cylinder. A booster allows you to get at it. For example, a J bottle with 60 bar of O2 (which is a hell of a lot if it's a 50L bottle) will never be able to fill your O2 bottle to more than a 60bar which isn't ideal if it's a titchy RB bottle. Rather than sending the supply bottle back to the depot you can use a booster to scavenge the rest of the gas.

    Re: Whats a Booster Pump for ?

    Hi 3/0

    A Booster Pump as mentioned earlier is designed to pump (Oxygen/Helium) to higher pressures than a supply cylinder contains.

    If you have 50 Bar in your supply cylinder and you require 250 Bar in your diving cylinder the Booster pump will do this and the ratio of Booster you would require is a 5/1 ratio or above.

    This type of Booster will generally be air driven due to cost, electric driven models are also available but tend to be a lot more expensive. Both types will require some pressure to be in the supply cylinder ie; 5 Bar for air driven and 30 bar for electric driven models. Manufacturers specifications will differ depending on the Pump.

    There is also a different type of pump that will Scavenge the remaining gas that the Boosters have to leave behind in the supply cylinder but they tend to be low pressure pumps that will pump out the remaining gas but at a ratio of 2/1.

    I hope that this very simplistic overview is of some use to you.

    Here is a small video of an air driven Booster in action;
