Use of copyrighted images in classifed listings without permission

Like the title says, I am wondering if I should be offended or flattered. On the one hand I have taken the time and effort to put these images on my wesbite to promote the sale of the item. On the other hand, someone has decided to use my images to sell the item in the used market.

Should I report it to eBay and have my images removed from the listing or just let it happen? Hell, the images even have my "Dsix36" watermark across them so is it a form of free advertising?

I would turn them in. If nothing else to show that you are trying to protect your copyright. Might come in handy later when someone claims public domain of the images. I've heard of it before.

What happens if the deal goes bad? Now you have someone with a sour taste and they bought your picture with your watermark. You are leaving your reputation up to someone else you don't know selling stuff on ebay? It's fine if everything goes right, but you are completely out of in dealings if it goes bad, except your image and watermark are in it.

Also, if you are selling something on ebay, post a picture of the actual item you are selling. Not a picture of something like you are selling. The only way I would let it slide is if they bought it from you and are reselling it.

They did originally buy it from me. That is they only reason I am reluctant to turn them in.

Ask them to remove it and report them if they don't then, as a compromise. Just because someone bought it from you once, doesn't mean they're now your relative/best buddy. They're pinching your image, suggesting they don't give a damn or have the decency to ask first; why should you worry about what they think? Respect needs to go both ways...

(as an aside, if I see stock images of products for sale on eBay, I tend to be very wary anyway - show me exactly what you're selling, not a photo of a brand new item that just happens to be the same make/model as what you are selling).

Send them an invoice for use of images.
