well at least with major airlines international one usually does not have to purchase..

And to be fair those international flights mentioned with Chef and 3 course meal..
In todays money these would also be at 3-4K USD return ticket and if you are planning and buying smart you are able to get business/first at that price tag and solid food comes along with that comfy seat..

Here's a picture of Captain Ken Swain during his C-5 flying days. He shared this technique with me for Hypoxia Training during the Mark 15 course I taught him.

Thems were the days, eh Ken?

and here's the reason you CARRY ON as much as possible and don't let anyone at the airline you are flying touch it. OUCH! Just think if that was your rig in that suitcase. Hope their vacation was worth it.

I've said this before, but McKenney and I used to carry all our film gear in cheapo ice chests taped together with duct tape.

    1) They were really cheap - a lot cheaper than Anvil Cases.
    2) Because of that, no one thought anything valuable was in them - so no theft.
    3) They were actually quite padded considering they're designed to be insulated, so the gear was well protected.
    4) Airport workers were afraid they were full of fish, and if they broke open they'd be stuck with the stench, so they got handled pretty well compared to our luggage, which always seemed to get destroyed in some way.

Give it a try next dive trip. You might be surprised at the results.
