Wouldn't help for someone without or a diminished sense of taste though. However, if you could create a cloth that would emit something non-toxic that could be detected by a sensor in a way that is not affected by moisture or similar things present in the loop, all that would remain would be to ensure people always put the cloth in to begin with!

Might be better to stick with CO2 sensor technology!!!
