    Seabob F5 S Scooter - your thoughts

Just after your thought about this unit, think pass the normal stuff like ride on, mask being blown off etc. and look at the technology. The specs are, if to be believed impressive though run time is an issue.

    Seabob F5 S

What do you think - say in a few years from now ????

    regards Baz

Emmmm that was useful - did you look at the claimed speeds that this unit is meant to put out ???

Hey Bazza, Saw one down the boat show a few years ago, Looked extremely well engineered, like spectacularly well done, Dunno if it's much use for diving, Looks like a fun toy though. $$$$ bloody expensive. Aimed at guys on super yachts who can toss a few onboard for fun. -Al.

Its not for diving. Its positively buoyant for a start. You have to drive it deep and as soon as you are off the throttle it will rise to the surface. Im sure you can understand the issue with that when you have deco?

Any reason it couldn't be trimmed out to just slightly positive?

Well it's only rated to 40 meters. And possibly not designed for extended periods at that depth.
What's the advantages over a fast dpv?

    3x the speed?

SEAL tow vehicle type, excepting range?

In reality, for what we actually do, none. Just a fun exercise in thought.

Yep all good points, the thing that interests me is the motor, could it be put into a normal scooter and could the run time be increased ???

Anything is possible given time and a big enough wallet.

Saying that, I found the Cuda ( 1200watt motor) uncomfortably fast in top speed. I dont think increased speed would be beneficial.
The Seabob is 4000watt. So its 3.5 times as powerful. Its specs say its 3 times as fast.
I dont believe that for a second. It may be twice as fast. But I doubt it. My understanding is you need 4 times the power to go twice as fast. It may have a more efficient design. But it may also be less efficient.
Run time can always be increased by putting more batteries in it.... if they fit, or higher capacity batteries.

Just get a Piranha with 3 battery packs ( or more). It will be cheaper and better suited to the task at hand.
