Question Confused about Swagelok QC6 specifications

    I don't understand this!

The SS-QC6-D-6PM is described as follows:
"Stainless Steel Instrumentation Quick Connect Stem with Valve, 0.5 Cv, 3/8 in. Male NPT"

    On this web page:
    http://www.swagelok.com/en/catalog/P...t=SS-QC6-D-6PM

I interpreted the "3/8 in." part as 3/8" (inch) and thought: How nice it would be to be able to plug directly into my gas block without an adapter. However, it seems like the "3/8 in." either means something else entirely or refers to something other than the threads because the outer dimension of the are ~0,673" (inch) which is nowhere near the 0.375" (inch) that I expected it to be.

Looking at the picture on the Swagelok site it indeed looks too big. But at te same time the SS-QC6-B-6PM which has the same "3/8 in." specification really looks like a proper 3/8" (inch) male on the picture:
    http://www.swagelok.com/en/catalog/P...t=SS-QC6-B-6PM

Also, the "standard" variant that NarkedAt90 and everyone else in the diving industry sells is specified as "1/4 in." and it's a 1/4" (inch) as expected.

Can anyone explain what I'm missing?

there is a difference between the 3/8" UNF (Unified National Fine Thread Series) that we all are used to, and 3/8" NPT with NPT meaning National Pipe Thread.

    Unfortunately completely differert animals.

    Thanks!
So bloody obvious when you say it, and I already knew that when I actually stop to think! =)
No idea how I managed to mix up NTP and UNF when reading specs of connectors verus the gas block.
