    Circa-1960s Mining Rebreather

EDIT: Turns out this is a variant on the MSA Gibbs Oxygen Breathing Apparatus and may be as old as 1920!

My friend said he found some "strange old cool thing, might be dive gear" and had me come over to take a look. Turns out it's a mining rebreather!

Leather is in great shape! Can't wait to hear people elaborate in on it's history and design.

    Re: Circa-1960s Mining Rebreather

I did some more digging- It was made by MSA, and is a variant of the Gibbs Oxygen Breathing Apparatus which was used as early as 1920! It wouldn't surprise me, as I'm in a large mining town with a long history.

It's a bit odd though, as the inhale and exhale ports are located by the left hip on the one my friend found. If anyone knows more, please jump in!

Leather was not intended for long submersion, and I would not trust the workings to be salt-water-proof unless checked out.

Where are its breathing tube or tubes and its mouthpiece or breathing mask?
