Dive Hat / Helmet - Shop built

This is ready for pool testing. It was built from scratch with the idea that a sphere shaped lens would give an excellent field of view. We'll see. It does look cool. Darth Vader meets Apollo astronaut. Its complete with counterweights, neck dam, headliner and a oral nasal cup inside. The pool will stop letting me in the facility after this one I'm sure...

    I really wanted one?
I would have begun with a Kirby Morgan but would have modified the everliving out of it so I just started on my own.

No real program. Just to see if I could.

Hello Sandy, very impressive work, looking forward to hearing how it performs. How did you make the lens? Is it optically correct? Thanks, -Andy

Its from the very highest quality optics that Ebay could buy. A lexan globe for outdoor light fixtures.
I checked the section I used and it looked clear. Now that I'm testing it I do notice a slightly distorted area in the top RHS of the lens. I'll see how bad it is underwater.

I'd love to have the skill to make stuff like that. Interesting to see how it performs.

IMHO, curved glass is absolutely baddest thing underwater.
Experienced this with military gas mask, which had curved eyeglasses.
Distortions are such heavy that we consider this mask useless.
Curved glasses provide heavy reduction of size of any visible objects,
for example - a beer bottle looks like finger-sized children toy potion.

Firstly- Kudos for making it look like a Star Wars prop.

Secondly- Curved surface will give appalling distortion underwater unless crafted in a super-computer... there is a good reason All underwater masks and helmets have flat lenses.

I'm sure you've seen- http://www.hydrooptix.com/index2.html its the only curved mask I know of, there non-contact lens mask was predicted to be $1500 10years ago but to my knowledge never reached market.

I guess the dome surface will make the vision blurry underwater, just like the Hydooptix mask.
I had one and because I don't wear near-sighted correction lenses it was unusable for me. A friend who is nea-sighted tried it and could see very clear with it.
It reminds me the first GoPro underwater housing with the dome lens, perfectly clear on land, blurry underwater.
Please give us the result when you will test it. ;)
