    CCR deaths

    Sorry for the grim title.
I had a brief discussion with someone today who quoted a figure of 90% of all ccr deaths are diver error. I do not know if 90% is correct or not, if anyone does know if the figure is right I would appreciate if they would post a reply.
    Many thanks Andyg

This is only my opinion, it just so happens to be true at the same time.

Any death on a CCR that would not have happened on OC (such as shark bite, heart attack, etc. etc. etc.) has to be the fault of the diver. As CCR divers, we are trained for all possible scenarios in regards to the CCR.

Therefore my take on the deaths being caused by diver error is 100%.

I have posted before and asked for any example to prove me wrong and it has not happened yet.

I think there is a guy around here, who got a whole lot of pdfīs.
And i think within those documents you will find the answers, or at least so he claims.

I donīt know i canīt be bothered to read all that stuff. I will rather go diving and live the risks involved.

But let us see if he wont show up tonight, and reveal the "truth" of this subject.

    Re: CCR deaths

The CCR fatalities list is a usefull if flawed document

    It works something like this

Man puts gun to eye and pulls triger to see if its loaded

Gun at fault as it didnt have a CE 45006297-5 mark aprroved automated intelegance assessment system that would have locked the triger preventing death by brain fart.

An example in the real world of CCR diving is:

Man failes to switch on CCR, fails to check proper function of unit prior to getting off the bench and jumping in the water

Fails to check the PP02 display prior to decending

    and dies from low PP02

Unit failure for not having automated switch on??????

    See gun example above

If you feel its the CCRs responsabuility to keep you alive?

    Please don't buy one.

Assuming that all the above sarcasm is a mystery to you, perhaps start by finding Dr Focks recent paper looking at this topic.
It's not perfect, but it does go through some of the issues at a reasonable level. He also spent a bit of time trying to get to a cleansed version of 'the list' to use as the basis of the maths in the paper.

Dr Fock is both a hyperbaric specialist, and has been diving rebreathers for ~10 years - doing the same sort of diving that most on here buy a rebreather for. And while he does dive an inspo, he does dive with people on other units (even an Apoc) and isn't a bigot about any particular unit. Although he is very rude about geriatric Prisms from time to time...

When a guy has a heart attack and dies on a golf course, they don't refer to it as a golfing accident. When that same heart attack happens diving, it's referred to as a diving accident.

The 90% number is not at all unreasonable.

If it happens while he's driving it will be referred to as a traffic accident.
