Its hard to find something really useful as a shareware.
Anyway, you can always go to the Autodesk site and ask for a 30 day trial Cd ROM!! At least you will have 30 days of a very good software.
Just go to Products and select one.
Under Product Information click on Product Trial.
I don't know what you are trying to do but start with Autodesk VIZ.
You also have AliasStudio, I have never used it but it looks interesting...
You can also find online tutorials for them.

    Good luck,

    Zé.

Sketch Up has a free trial version with limited faetures too. It seems very easy to learn.

Thanks , every one for the feedback. I have found what I was after and a wicked engineer to make the drawings. I will post anything that looks promising or the stuff that isn't:D

    Yup,

Just let us know. If its not too complicated then I should be able to 3D CAD model it in just a few mins.
I can then publish it to you in an e-drawing for you to play with. You can measure, cross-section, explode and animate it at will.
It is our way of getting your products right before John creates from materials.
Concept models are usually free, when dimentional and material characteristics are added there will be bills to pay. From this full engineering drawings will be produced with technical data all included. Metric or imerial, with mass, bouyancy and physical (strength) properties calc'd in.
Drawings will be individual parts and full working physics assembly models.

    Have fun.
