    Not sure how this is any kind of depth record in the western hemisphere, there's other systems in Florida and Mexico that are much deeper than have been done on both CCR and OC.

    The depth is measuring from the highest opening to the lowest point. Including all air filled passages.

    Like Mike said. Here's the list of the deepest caves in Mexico(Nov 2012, prior to the new 1545m record depth):

    There's not many other deep caves in the Americas (outside Mexico) that could be added to the top of this list.

    Cave diving generally doesn't add significantly to the depth of cave systems. An 81m dive is not a record in itself, but it pushed the depth past the previous deepest.
