From what i have seen and hear, K. Gurr seems to be a very clever engineerer, oh my goodness my 5 years old meg (and espacily the electronics) looks like an old classic car, but anyway i like diving my "classic car/rebreather"......

Looks really cool and congrats to the team to produce such a unit.

I have no rebreather experience yet. It was surprising to see that green apparatus that says whether you have the cartridge in place or not. Is that really a problem? Would an instructor really trust the green thing to tell whether the student packed it properly?

    Interesting.

It can be an issue obviously and not only for students - even some of the most experienced divers have assembled their units at some point without a scrubber or spacer.

Clever idea which definitely adds safety. A good instructor will indeed visually inspect units of the students, but will also overlook their checklist steps and have the students prebreath their units for long enough to spot possible issues or misassembly.

Unfortunately yes this is a an important safety concern, if memory serves - there was at least one incident where a non-rebreather trained instructor came across a Dolphin setup for a try-dive at the pool - he took it upon himself to have a "go" and go in the water - he was found drowned at the bottom of the pool with no scrubber media in the canister.

IMHO It's an simple/elegant solution to if there is a scrubber media present.

Here may be another stupid question then. From the video it wasn't clear for me on whether the canister had to be full of media or simply in the machine to show a green.

It does seem like a good final check though.

Yeah, because the next time a complete idiot like that with no experience or knowledge of the system grabs a Hollis without scrubber to go diving he will be alarmed by the non-existing of the green thing and will deter.

    Hi

According to what Kevin stated on the video, you will not be able to breathe from the loop if the canister has not been installed as the green component closes the loop in the absence of a scrubber, as for making sure you actually have a canister thats been filled or not, then I would expect that if the canister has no media in it then it would fail pre-dive checks.
He also states that it can only be filled by dive centre's and instructors, curious to see how they would control this.

    Regards

    Stuey

If the scrubber is not fully filled it will not push the green valve.

If the green valve is not pushed you can not breath through the loop as it is blocked closed
