I can tell you that not only been neutral but TRIMMED on the water is the clue.

I would just add when I first jump in, my initial thought is to want to shorten the tow line - As soon as I stretch out, all is good. i will ask my friends what they think about back pain.

Poor trim will have the scooter pulling you through the water at an angle. The water on your chest and feet will then hyper extend your back and that really hurts.

Getting your feet up and your torso absolutely flat is one of the keys to scootering longer distances/times without back pain. You probably aren't as flat as you think you are. Video from a buddy to the side of your as your drive by is invaluable to figuring out towcord and body position issues.

Not to mention burn time. Keeping VERY flat in the water not only reduce strain on the body but the burn time of your scooter dramatically increases. Most guys I've seen on Rebreathers and scooters have terrible trim. Get those knees ABOVE your shoulders!!

This is exactly what causes backpain for some.
