    Light Monkey Caving Helmet

So I want to build out a camera/light system and attach it to a helmet. I've seen a friends helmet on FB and it got me on the hunt for a good helmet that I can pull this off with that doesn't weigh much. I was on the Add Helium website and saw the Light Monkey cave diving helmet. Has anyone got any experience with this thing? Is it sturdy enough to mount light to the side and a Go Pro with a Golem Gear housing on top? Does anyone have any 'lessons learned the hard way' with regards to mounting for the light and the camera?

Be careful mounting the light too close to the camera otherwise you're going to get a snowstorm of backscatter!

I figured the light would be for seeing down there but once I turn the camera on I would use my Hydrolight on my hand to avoid that issue.

Good to know. Do you have any recommendations? I've heard that a motorcycle helmet with the padding out and a harness inserted may do the trick as well. Thoughts?

The light monkey should work. And can't bitch for the price.

You can remove the plastic parts from inside to have more space. It is also nice to have not too big helmet.

It takes some time to find out how it fits to your head. You need to fix the mounting so it does not move after you have got the direction right. It is annoying if the camera looks to different direction you think. You can find out it only by diving. Other diver can help to get it close or put some marks.

It is difficult to use it for short distance as you need to look much lower at that situation.

Our team has two cameras. On in helmet and another on in hand of another diver.

Don't forget that your mask must also fit with the helmet on.

    Re: Light Monkey Caving Helmet

No pics about Light Monkey helmet yet. We are just building new setups.
I will have my primary in helmet with snap on as it is too difficult to steer Magnus and manage spot light with one hand with mittens on. No problem in warm water without gloves. I have Cotour in left hand. Another 50W LM HID is attached to Magnus with a video reflector.

Taija has Contour in helmet. You can find it somewhere in Florida videos in http://vimeo.com/sukellusluola You can see the front view in FB Taija Nevalainen. That is a different helmet but the stiffness is about the same. You may see that the mask is against the helmet. It might help to keep the direction but it made a limit how to install it. It is attached with a single screw, self made plate between and glue. Taija has spot and video 50W in her left hand.

I use same helmet as Light Monkey (old Diverite) with my GoPro setup.
GoPro is on one side and light is on the other. Then I have another handheld light. Sometimes the helmet light must be switched off when in silty environment.
