    Personal Location Beacon

Got the notice from NOAA that it was time to renew my registration which I did. Then went to do a self test on my Fast Find 210 and it failed. Looks like the battery is dead even though the experation date for the batt. is 06/2015. It's now being boxed up to be shipped back for repair, the battery is not user changeable. Just a heads up for any other PLB users, don't wait to test the unit while drifting in the ocean.

Someone posted about a similar problem a while back on TDS.

Luckily mine tests OK since I am in Thailand. But of course I would never need to use it anyways.

The instructions say to test annually, no one seems to bother oddly.

    A couple of things:

First, I believe that there is a service center in Jacksonville. You might want to try getting in touch with them to do the battery change.

Second, if you have the FastFind in the manufacturer's case, you might also want to try opening the case often enough to make sure that it will open when you need it. Mine seems to lock up pretty hard, even with frequent cleaning and lubing.
